Bucky Katt: They're going to the vet to put down their dog and they're still getting hassled by photographers.  ffs.

I'm not saying a presidential pardon is in order if they should happen to have hired a bunch of guys to attack the photographers with cricket bats, possibly causing grievous bodily harm or destroying equipment, but certainly a gubernatorial pardon is not unreasonable. Also having the ghouls with cameras pay for damage their heads and cameras inflicted on the bats is to be expected in such an event.

All society has to do is allow nature to take its course and paparazzi will evolve to be more cromulent members of society.

There should be some times that the paparazzi should just put their cameras down.

Dick. Why does it matter who had to put their friend down? It's a safe assumption is was as horrible for him as it is for the rest of us, only this poor guy had someone with a camera in his face making money from it. Celebrity and politics have nothing to do with a guy losing his pal. Fark off.

Sorry if that came out too harsh. It seemed as though you were sarcastically mocking him. Which in a normal thread would be fine, but in this thread...I jumped the gun and responded too harshly. I apologize.

Losing a pet is rough, I've been there. But thing about cats and dogs, is they last about 10-15ish years. This reaction you're having is not normal and you should seek some professional help. This isn't snark, this is genuine concern for a fellow farker.

Stolen from Louis CK's recent HBO special... Of course we shouldn't joke about a beloved pet being put to sleep. Of Course!

But maybe...

The picture of Mila Kunis and the dog does open up funny photoshop opportunities that might be hard to resist by those with 'shop talent.

The wife's parents have a cat, 'Bumbus and that moody little thing is 23. Which is insane. We thing she's living just out of spite.

Also, yeah, I get my trouble isn't normal. We were preposterously close. I've been trying to work through it. A lot of it, I think, is not getting past the thought that I voluntarily murdered my best friend for her own good. And yes, I do realize that's nonsense, and that she'd do it for me, and that it wasn't murder, but it's still in my very unhealthy head.

Had to put down my best buddy a couple of years ago; the most gut-wrenching act of love ever (he was suffering from doggy dementia which was kinda funny sometimes, but yeah, no.)

I swore I would never bring another pet into this house but wouldn't you know it - we picked up my dad's cat after my dad died because it was either we take the cat home or a psycho neighbor whom we suspected killed pets for kicks offered to take it in.  I know when we lose this dumbass cat it's going to hurt but the alternative was just not acceptable.

Long and boring css

I know where you're coming from. I had to do the same thing to The Most Awesome Cat after he became aggressive and attacked my (now ex-) girlfriend. I'll never forget the look he gave me as they shoved him into that little cage. Took about ten years before I was able to keep that pain away for longer than a couple hours at a time. It was the right thing to do, but I doubt I'll ever forgive myself completely.

Ya know, I never really liked her until she went to Scotland with Craig Ferguson. I got to see the real ( right ) her , in a Scottish graveyard. I always thought that she was pretty, but just vacuous. I was wrong.
That said- I hate taking the cats in for the pink shot, when it is due. And my Gordie is 18 or 19 now, so, I soon will have another hole to dig, and a drive of tears, both ways.
I prefer it is just me, the Vet and her asst. I dont give a good damn if anyone watches me cry when I have to do this, but- the less bipeds I encounter, the better.

Ya know, I never really liked her until she went to Scotland with Craig Ferguson. I got to see the real ( right ) her , in a Scottish graveyard. I always thought that she was pretty, but just vacuous. I was wrong.

She's very bright, like Kutcher, I suspect (he IS, I don't care if you hate him). I read something about her speaking several languages, her parents are scientists, blah blah. Consider that she didn't even come to this country until she was 7, then learned perfect English, and was working in That 70's Show when she was 15.

In general, I don't mind the paparazzi. Obviously there's a market for their services. Hell, I'll even admit that TMZ's show is on occasionally in my home as a bit of a guilty pleasure/background noise.

Grief, however, is one of those times where I really think that the media in general along with the paparazzi need to show some restraint. To those who say "but it's only an animal, it's not the same," ..grief is grief. It doesn't matter whether you understand WHY someone is fragile or upset. You should simply recognize that they ARE upset, and put down the farking camera and microphone.

Practically anyone who's ever had a dog or a cat knows logically that they will outlive their animal, barring tragedy. You go in to the whole relationship KNOWING that one day, you're probably going to have to make a very terrible choice about what is or is not merciful. If you've gone through it before, you promise yourself not to let it hit you so hard "the next time"..but it never gets easier, even if you adopted a senior animal from a shelter, or a semi-disabled animal.

I sobbed uncontrollably for about two weeks when I had a cat die on me unexpectedly. I don't have kids, and barring something utterly shocking, I never will. She was my baby. My boss let me take two PAID days of grieving time. (Admittedly, he was a cat person and also a great guy.)

Unless I'm mistaken, Ashton Kutcher has no children. This dog wasn't just a "pet". It was family. When you don't have kids, you don't normally make that psychological distinction between the value of a human vs animal life, in terms of "family".

My heart goes out to this guy. The dude who took the photo is kind of an asshole. I get that he's got bills to pay, and his first thought was "Oooh! Ashton and Mila!!"..but when you see someone bringing an animal to a vet and wrapped up in a blanket, you should probably figure things aren't necessarily dandy.
And if the person/people bringing it look like they've been crying, you should definitely put two and two together.

For fark's sake..he's about to say a final goodbye to his kid. Let the poor guy have his privacy.

Nice post. I would like to live in a world where that is true.  I only quoted the last bit just to say we know he cares about his dog. Otherwise someone from his staff would've taken him to be put down. Along with that Mila came along for support.

But I wouldn't make the pets are surrogate kids connection. It isn't always true. The day we had to put my Midnight down it was my best friend I lost.
