He's a "homophobe"? In Hollywood?

He may be a homophone, but the Gibson analogy is inapt. Baldwin is a massive liberal who, as far as I know, is a huge supporter of gay rights - he's been in ads advocating for gay marriage. So while his slurs are bad and worthy of condemnation, they clearly don't tell you everything about his stance towards gay people.

Likewise, if Gibson was a huge liberal and a huge supporter of Jews in a real and practical sense, his situation would be entirely different. But he's not that. The analogy is inapt.

I do think he's just a short-tempered, explosive person.  But yeah, he's really got to knock that shiat off.

That aside, I want to know what the hell MSNBC was thinking when they put him on opposite Bill Maher's show.

Oddly enough, his tight friendship with Jodie Foster would imply Gibson is OK with homosexuals.

I doubt that's the case, given his wacky brand of Catholicism.  I'm sure he just likes girl-on-girl action.

I've seen his MSNBC show a few times, and its actually interesting. He just talks to people he finds interesting, and its not even political. He talked to Debra Winger and the guys who starred in 2001. It was interesting.

I don't know a single liberal who gives a shiat about what Alec Baldwin does or thinks.

Is liberal being used as a pejorative again?

On the other hand I know several liberals (many of whom appear on Fark) who always seem to give a shiat about what Ted Nugent does or thinks.

No

in the sense that it can't be "again" if it never stopped

When Alec Baldwin declares that he may run for President and has a legion of fans who advocate him entering the political arena maybe your argument will hold water then. It was good while it lasted, though, right? We'll always have that 3 minutes, spman. Never forget them!

You mean the guy who gets held up by and associates very publicly with national political candidates, e.g. Mike Huckabee?

I'm a libby-lib-lefty and I think the "Schweddy balls" sketch was one of the funniest things on SNL in ages.

I also thought he was underrated in The Departed.

I'm a liberal and Alec Baldwin seems a douche. But I couldn't care one way or another what he thinks about anything. Who does?

He is an awesome actor.  A lousy father.  And poor talk show host.  Also, he has anger issues with papparazi.  I doubt he's a homophobe.

2013-11-15 03:33:12 PM
I think the concept goes over some people's.... or a lot of people's heads that someone can be liberal about some things and less than politically correct  about others. Baldwin can hate GW Bush and his policies and still call someone who pisses him off a cocksucker. I'm in that category. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

2013-11-15 03:34:04 PM
Is this the thread where Fark Independents pretend to care what Alec Baldwin says, let alone to a farking paparazzi? Because that would be some genuine outrage, yessiree.

Uh oh, I've run out of false equivalencies.  Please, Fark Independents, this is your chance to be heroes!

Why would I give him a pass for it? I highly doubt he is actually homophobic, but I certainly don't think what he said was okay. Just because I agree with some things he says doesn't mean I agree with all things he said. I bet if I dug deep enough I could find something I agree with cruz on.

Its not just right wingers

Everyone is a victim of something

We like to feel victimized because it will provide us justification for actions that we take

That's a very old argument that you're not going to win. The accepted meaning is "insulting to gays", nor "fear of gays".

Nobody is saying it's okay for him to do that.  But nobody is saying he's not on the team anymore either.  Big surprise.

He is just an asshole and a homophobe.. However I'm not sure how that makes right-wingers into victims.  The victims are those that fell for his phoney B/S,  the gays, liberals and MSNBC.  MSNBC because now they have exposed themselves as hypocrites.
