Supposedly the girl was very drunk. I dont know how she was acting.

Usually after a car accident you can be injured and your adrenaline is pumping, plus she was very intoxicated, maybe she was acting crazy?

I guess i am naive and i really have a hard time believing that someone would just shoot a woman in the face for no reason.

Are you trying to take it back?

He's been charged, he'll be found not guilty, the media will have the vapors, and that'll be the last we hear of it.

The porch was just asking for it dressed like that.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said that Theodore P. Wafer, 54, of Dearborn Heights faces charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of Renisha McBride on Nov. 2.

The shooting has prompted calls for a thorough investigation from civil rights groups that say race was a factor. McBride was an African-American. Worthy is white, said Worthy spokeswoman Maria Miller.

So we've established the prosecutor is white. Great proofreading as always AP

A toxicology report released Thursday showed she had alcohol and marijuana in her system. The report said McBride's blood alcohol content was about 0.22, more than twice the legal limit for driving. Her blood also tested positive for the active ingredient in marijuana.

She was apparently unsuccessful and unattractive.

Some drunk was banging on his door at 3am, he grabbed his gun but the idiot didn't have the safety on.  Should of just charged him w/ manslaughter (which he even admitted to) and moved on

No winners her. Just a seriously inebriated young woman and a scared ass homeowner.

She was trying to open doors, both the side and front door to his house, hours after her car accident.

Don't people who look for help try asking for help instead of helping themselves inside your house?

I thought you had to pick one charge and go with it... Why don't they charge him with 1st degree, 3rd degree murder and negligent homicide while they're at it?

And yeah, I'm having trouble understanding how he could just shoot her. There has to be something more than this. Maybe the guy was drunk or tripping balls... I just don't see someone opening the door and unloading a shotgun. usually even the most paranoid person says "Go away" or "I'll shoot" before they actually do so. And yeah, maybe her intoxication and disorientation from the accident was making her act strangely enough that he took it as a threat in some way.

I know it's also easy to jump up and say race was a factor, but I've heard nothing to indicate that other than the fact that he was White and she was Black.

It's a plant. It doesn't have ingredients. Try 'component' or 'compound'. Hell, even 'molecule' would work, and sounds nice and sciency.

Not according to TFA

[Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy] said evidence showed McBride knocked on the locked screen door, and that there was no evidence of forced entry.

It's every white persons fantasy to gun down some black person who is minding their own business.

At least according to most of the straw man manufacturers I see that post here.

I'm taking that back. It's not that far if you're disoriented. I've forgotten what it's like to be young and drunk.

That doesn't say she didn't try to force her way in....it says she was unsuccessful in forcing her way in and knocked at least once.

Fled the scene because she was 2 times over the legal limit and had an illegal substance in her blood-stream. My guess is she wasn't as disoriented, as much as she was paranoid and desperate for help and a remedy that did not involve her getting into trouble. She probably was panicking and scared the crap out of the homeowner who thought she was trying to break in and he shot her.

Only white people who own firearms desire to gun down black people.

Legally does one need to wait for penetration in order to defend oneself from a rapist?

No I didn't RTFA thanks for asking. Just curious.

Yeah it is. You ever had a head injury, especially when really drunk? I took a dive down a staircase on the outside of an apartment once, and not only do I not remember exactly what happened, although I have great recall starting from picking myself up from the ground. I also may have wandered off in a daze, except that one of my friends showed up late for the party and took me to the hospital. I'm not sure why you think distance would be a limiting factor.

2013-11-15 03:34:57 PM
Wow, if she was that drunk 3 hours after the accident, then she must have been really wasted, unless she continued drinking after the accident?

You do know that drunk and "disoriented" might as well be synonyms, right? Add "injury" to that, and it's totally feasible that she could have been completely lost as to where she was.

of course, blaming the victim is always fun when they're already dead, so I;ll do it for everyone here: She obviously was loaded, totally in control and tried to cover it all up by asking this guy to shoot her in the face for an alibi.

This is in Dearborn Heights......if the guy opened the door for someone at 3am I would try to commit him to a mental ward for observation at the very least.

Then don't open your f--king door.

Peepholes exist for a reason.  So do phones, that can call 911.

And so do courts, and he is innocent until proven guilty.  But I'm pretty damn supportive of him being charged.

Yeah, and when you have a hammer everything looks like a f--king nail.

What I have seen mentioned is that he may have jumped to conclusions he wouldn't have if she was a young WHITE woman knocking on his door in distress - there would have been more benefit of the doubt.  Maybe he wouldn't have grabbed the gun to open the door.  We don't really know.

But again, as a Young White Woman growing up in SE Michigan, I can say that I was treated from the get-go much differently than African American or Middle Eastern friends by many people.  Not all by any means - but an annoyingly obvious minority.

Enough where it was visible, especially when our cross country team (with white, Chinese, Indian, African-American and Middle Eastern members) went somewhere in a non-obvious group.  We were all on paper exactly the same - high school athletes, most of us on the honor roll and/or student government, from the same hometown and with families in the same income bracket - but if a group of us were in a store in the mall all browsing in different areas, guess who the security guard would be eying.

This.  I think that the homeowner is probably going to get off if he has a decent lawyer.  There's enough reasonable doubt (in my mind from what I've heard) that the (drunk/high) person he shot could have been acting in a manner that appeared sufficiently threatening that shooting her right now was a valid option under the law.

It's a terrible tragedy, but probably not murder.
