That is the ugliest operculum I've ever seen!

I wonder if it would survive the winters up here.

Evacuation Plan Delta is a go. It wont hold everyone so unfortunately some of you are going to have to die.

Heh, I live about a half mile from the creek in question. Guess I'll have to watch out if I ever go walking in it.

/not quite sure why I would though.

It must have left New Zealand about a thousand years ago to get here.

Look at that poor American Bison. He's so depressed he is planning to drown himself in Great Salt Lake.

Mind you, so would we all. So would we all.

Can you drown yourself in Great Salt Lake? Or has the salt become so concentrated that you would only float face down and smother yourself?

That guy looks like a beady-eyed Mormon. Is he?

Has anybody thrown him into Great Salt Lake to see if he is a witch?

It might, but the gorillas surely won't.

Once they start their march up State Street, then i will be worried.

I'm confused. What the Hell is the Governor of Wisconsin doing in Great Salt Lake any way?

Bobbing?

This is more evidence that US papers should include the name of the State as well as town or county in their website banners.

There are over 3,600 counties in the USA. Nobody can reasonably be expected to know what state they are all in.

There's a Washington State, District, City and County (if not fifty or more of them).

Things get very confusing for non-locals.

LABEL YOUR DAMN COUNTIES. Apart from some gimmees like LA County and Penobscot, I have no idea where they are.

Predicted to reach Baraboo by the year 2513 and Spooner by 3500.

Sometimes I feel that Grandpa Simpson is a kindred spirit.

Now get your damn clouds off of my lawn. If I want it watered, I'll get out the hose.

I bet a dollar to a doughnut that Chimps could be trained to get periwinkles out of the shell with a pin. We could get a bunch of unemployed Hollywood and zoo chimps and train them to eat snails and Zebra mussels.

But if Chimps developed a taste for sea food, they would grow giant brains and we'd end up living on the Planet of the Apes.

It's worth a try, though.

Orangutangs have been observed imitating spear fishermen. A recent article points out that somebody was making obsidian spear points before humans evolved, so maybe it was particularly smart apes rather than Homo Heidelbergensis. Gorillas are vegetarians, but I am sure we could get them to eat something invasive. There's lots of invasive plants.

It's illegal to commit suicide in Utah. It's carries a mandatory jail term as well as a heavy fine. You can't escape this place........ever.

Believe it or not, Dane County in Wisconsin is the only Dane County in the country.

Did they steal their snails from funnier, more talented counties?

Hey - Dumb Story Bro time!

Back in July I noticed a large bump on our Basset Hound's paw.  Didn't appear to be causing her pain, but it was definitely large and nasty looking.  Since we lost our last Basset to cancer (that was originally found as a bump) we lost no time getting her to the vet.

The vet inspected, poked, prodded, and x-ray'd the lump.  All she could tell was it wasn't cancer and it didn't appear to be a foreign body.  She took some samples and sent them off to the lab and sent us home with antibiotics.

A week later she got the results.  I don't have them here, but it was some form of antibiotic-resistant bacteria found in the saliva and digestive tracts of...snails.  The vet paused....looked at me..."Your dog got bit by a snail."  And then she laaaaaauuuuuuuughed.

Took a months worth of anti-biotics to clear that up.  Snails are some nasty critters.

Yep, my Rott just got a lump like that on his elbow. Looked like a huge bite/cancer bump at first but it's slowly going away. Of course we have slugs but same deal.

I have a small salt water tank that has been, in the most literal sense, a living ecosystem for about 15 years.  When I first set it up, I put some live rock in there.  Once every few years or so, there is a minor explosion of some species of snails.  I think I've only seen the same species once or twice.  It's always something different.

Never look at your salt water reef tank with a flashlight after dark.  There is stuff that comes out that will give you nightmares.

escargot snails and deathcap mushrooms were imported from France to California.  Sure it was a hundred years ago, but they have spread to an area of about 5 million sq. miles.

the death cap mushrooms came with cork trees.  the cork trees died.
