Bartitsu? Reminds me dimly of a joke that I only remember the punch-line to. "First of all lady, I'm a bartender, not a barfender, second it's a martini, not a martoonie, and third, you don't have heartburn, your tit's in the ashtray."

BART-itsu. Is when you have five white cops holding down a brother and one of them shoots him in the back.
Then walks away from justice.

How did they feel about the Holmes movies? I heard RDJ did some bartitsu in scenes. Looked more Wing Chunnish in spots to me.

I created fartitsu. A combination of eastern style martial arts, British boxing, American nipple twisting and eating at taco bell twice a day.

Is it like the latest in craze in speaking Klingon, i.e. a handful of nerds are doing it and nobody else?

Eh, any martial art that has good basic foundations and it practiced with proper intent can be effective. That said, this looks more like historical reconstruction, like Ren Fair knights dueling with swords.

I've tried skeet shooting in a resort I stayed in once...I can't imagine the recoil on that thing.

Also, I'd imagine where you'd grip the other hand to stabilize the thing would getting pretty hot.

Granted, those are illegal in some (at least) jurisdictions, while a plain old walking stick is perfectly acceptable.

A friend of mine uses one of these:  http://www.coldsteel.com/Product/91STA/CITY_STICK%2c_ALUMINUM_HEAD.as p x

Mostly because they're an automatic felony to even carry, at least in the United States.  Or trust me, I would.

/need the cane to walk on anyway, be nice if I could multi-task it a bit

Yeah, the "original" barititsu was copied from Judo and boxing. The "recreated" one has also just stolen from othe rmartial arts.

No idea why it owudl look like he was doing it int he movie...
