No.  Really.  That's actually in the article.

A liberal muslim homosexual ACLU lawyer professor and abortion doctor was teaching a class on Karl Marx, known atheist

"Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Marx and accept that he was the most highly-evolved being the world has ever known, even greater than Jesus Christ!"

At this moment, a brave, patriotic, pro-life Navy SEAL champion who had served 1500 tours of duty and understood the necessity of war and fully supported all military decision made by the United States stood up and held up a rock.

"How old is this rock, pinhead?"

The arrogant professor smirked quite Jewishly and smugly replied "4.6 billion years, you stupid Christian"

"Wrong. It's been 5,000 years since God created it. If it was 4.6 billion years old and evolution, as you say, is real... then it should be an animal now"

The professor was visibly shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of Origin of the Species. He stormed out of the room crying those liberal crocodile tears. The same tears liberals cry for the "poor" (who today live in such luxury that most own refrigerators) when they jealously try to claw justly earned wealth from the deserving job creators. There is no doubt that at this point our professor, DeShawn Washington, wished he had pulled himself up by his bootstraps and become more than a sophist liberal professor. He wished so much that he had a gun to shoot himself from embarrassment, but he himself had petitioned against them!

The students applauded and all registered Republican that day and accepted Jesus as their lord and savior. An eagle named "Small Government" flew into the room and perched atop the American Flag and shed a tear on the chalk. The pledge of allegiance was read several times, and God himself showed up and enacted a flat tax rate across the country.

The professor lost his tenure and was fired the next day. He died of the gay plague AIDS and was tossed into the lake of fire for all eternity.

In all fairness, I did have my grade downgraded for my religious beliefs when I was in college. I was transferring to UVA so I didn't feel like fighting over it, but I wasn't forgiving on my course eval. The only Christian in the class who got an "A" was a Persian woman who was a mutliple-threat: hot and smart.

That being said, it's the only time I've witnessed that kind of discrimination in college, and it wasn't even from a tenured professor.

the other likely case is he was on topic but took after conservative media and just made shiat up as he went to support his narrative and is outraged that folks expects college papers to contain things like facts, research, and some basis in reality.

A one-dimensional columnist gives a one-dimensional perspective on what he believes college is like.

Will wonders never cease?

I had Poli Sci classes in college with Monica Farking Crowley.  Some with an uber-conservative professor (Bob Kaufman).  He treated his students equally and only harshed on you if you were stupid and didn't represent your points well.

Although he probably preferred Monica's tits.  And I think he may have been the person who hooked her up with Nixon.

I'm sure this guy's dopey anecdotes are from little turds who spout nonsense like "privatize everything" or are aspiring little Norquists.  Those students should be harshed on.

If you don't slap some sense into them in college they turn into Eric Ericksons.  And it shouldn't need to be said - people like Erickson aren't helping anyone, liberal or conservative.

In my own personal experience, it wasn't the views that caused reprisal for being too conservative. What I saw was reprisal for failure to back up the bullsh*t. It just so happens I saw this on the liberal views too. If this isn't a case of butthurt than I don't know what is.

I had a thoroughly anit-religion Philosophy professor my freshman year. I was a part of the on-campus ministry team and was pretty open about my faith.

I got terrible grades on several papers. I was lazy and my writing was not of the caliber necessary for a college course.

I got my stuff together, worked harder at self editing and got a better grade in the class.

But it was definitely my professor being a close-minded lefty liberal bigot that was the reason I got bad grades.

This is not the case. They want to go to the emergency room and not to pay a cent. We have a program for that for the truly poor. But the lower middle class wants to do the same on my dime without a program. That is the problem.

You're going to hit one here and there.  People suck.  But it's not a systemic problem.

I had an International Relations prof who wrote a book.  He designed a final exam where he wanted you to answer that the model he created and wrote about in the book was the best model for understanding international relations.

I disagreed.  I wrote about all the models we looked at in the class, and detailed their strengths and weaknesses and explained what situations each one was best applied to.

Got an F.  He said his model was best.  So I appealed it to the department head and the dean, got it changed after making my case, and got on with my life.

Ah!  I misread your sarcasm.  I thought you were saying he was still being close-minded but graded you fairly once you stepped up your game.

And maybe he was.  But the fairness is most important in this context.

That was one of the benefits of going to a smaller school.  The profs were well-known and you could get a good rundown on them before you signed up for their classes.

It's just a fact that university professors are stuck in their own little world of academia and can't handle opinions from the outside world. It's totally unlike being an American Thinker writer who is part of the well grounded and totally open world of right wing news and commentary.

I'd like to know what kind of class these poor persecuted wingnuts are taking? If they are spouting their conservative political views during a calculus lecture, then yes, they probably deserve to be slapped down.

2013-11-15 10:21:01 AM
We need professors to affirm our political biases, not test them.   It's not like liberal students are ever challenged to justify their beliefs in college classes.

When my econ 101 professor espoused neoclassicism as a solution to all problems during lecture, I asked him about it after class.  I found his assertions that it increases social mobility suspect given recent trends.  He disagreed, but you know what he didn't do?  Punish me for disagreeing.  That doesn't happen, and these college republicans are used to their lifetime authority figures doing exactly that.

They don't get academic freedom, and that's their own failing.

But sure, American Thinker, use violence against people who disagree with you to solve your problem.  That's all you've got: "1.  Shout I'm right.  2.  Hurt people who don't agree."

This isn't limited to professors religious or political beliefs. When I was in college we had a computing course in Fortran 77 (this was in the aughts...) and one coursework had a mini essay question along the lines of "describe the merits of Fortran 77 over X in this application" - a friend in the class answered accurately identifying all the merits of the program but then went on to describe all the ways Fortran 77 was worse than both the other program in question and a range of other programming languages available, including newer versions of Fortran. Essentially a multi-page biatching session on the absurdity of teaching out of date languages to a engineering class. The professor couldn't find a single thing he wrote that was factually wrong, and all the remaining questions regarding writing the code were answered perfectly. Grade: C.

On the upside the class in the following year was taught programming languages that had developed in the student's lifetimes.

American Thinker;  The name is sure an oxymoron.  Worse, this article is actually more coherent than many I have seen on here.  The others sound sound like postcards from edge insanity.  He hits his first over generalization early and builds the rest of his argument from there.  He claims:

those pursuing college degrees are doing so in order to better their life experience, and the best way to do that is to increase one's earning ability.

The assertion that all college students equate better life experience by maximizing earning potential is wrong.  If that were true then who would become a teacher, or pursue any of the sciences where you are planning on becoming   say a research scientist.  While these professions have undeniable worth to society, they tend to pay far below other professions.  This generalization of peoples motivations continues throughout the article.

This idea that a) All college professors are left wing and b) that they grade down people who dare hold a different ideology.  This is absurd.  I never once had what I thought was an ideological zealot.  Also, you don't need to hire an expensive lawyer because if you feel you have been treated unfairly then most if not all schools have a process where that can be independently evaluated.  No professor is going to risk their tenured position over downgrading a student because he thinks Sarah Palin is cool.

Yet, you never read about a student asking for this kind of review.  Most likely because they would be shown to be blowing smoke and that they earned that D.  No this is mostly a made up boogeyman of the right wing tea nuts to explain why nearly everyone with any education thinks they are crazy as a shathouse rat.  Also, a student who offers up his opinion/answer in a lecture environment should be able to handle the fact that someone even the instructor might disagree and have a good reason for that opinion.   Having people disagree with your statements or showing and stating why and how they are wrong is not cutting you down because they are some left wing radical.  The far right can not accept criticism AT ALL.  Any disagreement is tantamount to an attack.

Ultimately what they want is to actually suppress any real intellectual discussions that could lead to something they do not like being shown as a reasonable  conclusion based on the discernible facts.  So, if they could get the professors worried that they could be held responsible for encouraging thought and discussion that the right feels is wrong then they win.  Critical thinking, and understanding the proper way of argument is something that works against the fanatics in the GOP.

The universities do not indoctrinate students, they just teach the students how to think, apply critical thinking skills, recognize facts, etc.  Then those students break apart the indoctrination given to them by their parents, and very likely church.  They break the chains.

You know what?  One of the most important things you need to learn to lead a productive and lucrative life is to give the boss what he wants, not what you feel like delivering.  Go get hired at McDonalds then tell your boss you're going to spend all day making pizzas and see how long you last.

Intellect is pitted against feeling, on the ground that it is somehow inconsistent with warm emotion. It is pitted against character, because it is widely believed that intellect stands for mere cleverness, which transmutes easily into the sly or the diabolical. It is pitted against practicality, since theory is held to be opposed to practice, and the 'purely' theoretical mind is so much disesteemed. It is pitted against democracy, since intellect is felt to be a form of distinction that defies egalitarianism. Intellect has been dissevered from its coordinate place among the human virtues and assigned the position of a special kind of vice.

Mikey1969: In a recent O'Reilly "Mad as Hell" segment, a student-viewer expressed his anger at being unable to voice his conservative views in the college classroom without fear of reprisal from his liberal professors.

Then start looking for Conservatives who don't attack people with an education as "elitists", asshole. Until that happens, there aren't going to be a lot of conservatives in the classroom. You douchebags have only yourselves to blame.

And what kind of "reprisals" could you really be afraid of? Man up, Nancy.

And anyway, aren't you supposed to LISTEN, in class ?

Why should the teacher allow constant interruption ? The student is here to study, not to debate.

I took an environmental class at the community college some years back.  The teacher was very liberal.  If a student complained that he wasn't giving a fair representation of both sides, he would say, "I don't need to. Out there, all you get is the conservative side. On the radio, in the newspaper, on TV. This is the only place you'll hear the liberal side; this class is the balance to everything else" (paraphrased from memory). It was also his last semester teaching before he retired, so I kind of think he stopped giving a fark.

One particular assignment was an online discussion via the course website and forum.  There were some rules on online etiquette, things like be polite, don't be vulgar. We had rules that if you break these once, you drop a letter grade, if you break these twice, you're kicked out of class and will receive and F.  One student didn't do the first online assignment and was shocked to find out we had the assignment at all, despite it being in the syllabus and talked about in class for several class periods leading up to the assignment. The student decided that the best place to complain would be the very forum where our assignments were due, and decided that getting drunk first would be a great idea.  They made a post saying how stupid it was and proceeded to cuss out the teacher.  It was particularly bad.  The prof deleted the post, but made a comment about how this was an example of what not to do, and for the rest of us to please remember to be polite and civil on the forums.

The next class we had a fun discussion with the student accusing the teacher that the only reason they were losing a grade is because the teacher was a liberal, and if he really loved freedom then he wouldn't put restrictions on what people could say.

That better be a part of a summary that justifies its points more meaningfully(not that I disagree).

Rev. Skarekroe: A liberal muslim homosexual ACLU lawyer professor and abortion doctor was teaching a class on Karl Marx, known atheist

He died of the gay plague AIDS and was tossed into the lake of fire for all eternity.

rumpelstiltskin: Do it. One of you farking shaved apes who got a D on his paper and blames the grade on his political views and not the quality of his scholarship, file suit. Put your shiatty paper into evidence, so the whole world can see it and mock you. It's not fair that only your professor benefits from the entertainment you provide. Cat pictures are great, but the internet needs more. We deserve more. We demand more. DO IT!

Wish I still had my example.  I'm almost a straight A student.  3.85 GPA.  Had to do a research paper for an English class once.  The topic was the effects of gun control on violent crime.  I cited multiple research papers and statistics indicating that the availability of guns had little correlation, if any, either positive or negative on the violent crime rate.  I went in great detail about how violent crime was approaching the lowest levels in years and that the trend appeared to be continuing.  Also, I used the examples of both Chicago and Detroit, one restrictive and one permissive and that both were bucking the national trend.  This was a couple years ago, so I have been proven correct.

Got a zero on that paper with only the words "Invalid Premise - Redo" scrawled across the top.   Draw your own conclusions I suppose.

Diogenes: INeedAName: I had a thoroughly anit-religion Philosophy professor my freshman year.

Why didn't you just write it the way he wanted and get on with your life in the first place?
