Ormsby stressed that motorists should not get out of their cars to argue with each other

Yeah, it's hard to imagine that situation ever ending with a polite handshake.

I always yield the right of way to the driver with the deadly weapon.

There's that one Russian dashcam video of the guys with the bat and hatchet...

Well played, subby.

There are only three rules to a four way stop and this new information does not alter them. They apply in order of precedence:

1. First in First Out
2. Yield to a driver on the right
3. Yield to a parallel driver when turning left

There is no yielding to brandishing knives in the intersection. You simply run them over. This does not disrupt the three basic rules as they cannot stab your car to death.

If we had more roundabouts this wouldn't happen. Four-way stops are just the man keeping us down.

That was a great commentary on the Cold war

Don't bring a knife to a car fight?

A guy in a Rent a Center truck brandished a knife at me once because I wouldn't let him butt into the long line of traffic I had been waiting in. I may have let him in if I hadn't seen him pull out of the line 10 cars back. Would have got a picture with my phone if I hadn't been getting ready to run him over if he got out.

You have a weapon in your hand, I'm wearing a 2 ton armored weapon. good call, buddy.

Dnrfa: Wouldn't the fact of getting out of one's car sort of concede the right away?

I understand the urge to commit violent acts in traffic.  I live in Maryland.

However, in reality, it's a pretty dumb thing to go to jail/die over.

A lot of drivers around here don't comply to the first rule you didn't list: Stop.  Forget trying to get them to acknowledge the rest.  A lot of folks who do stop, will sit there and wave everyone else through, regardless of when anyone got there and the line behind them.  And to them I say, 'you are not helping.'

Gotta admit, if somebody pulled a knife out while I was in my car... I'd uh... not really give a shiat.

I like that the article used "knifed" instead of "stabbed".

I always enjoy those jackasses because I'll intentionally pull into the intersection like I'm going to t-bone them.

If you didn't stop, you didn't get there first, shiatbird.

I am still (for some reason) kind of amazed at how many people don't understand how a 4-way stop works.

Don't they cover it in driver's ed? Even if it wasn't, isn't it kind of common sense?

Which may be the answer to my question as to why people still don't get it.

Also, people are assholes.

It's effectively hitting the pause button. No one is supposed to move their vehicle until the situation resolves in bloodshed.

I would. My car is four months old, can't have his knife scratching the paint.

But then, I live in Texas. Pulling a knife in a fit of road rage is likely to get you shot. Most people know this.

But what if all 4 drivers reach the intersection simultaneously? You just sit there all day waving the guy on your right forward...
