What if China is not really closing those reeducation camps but its just sending its own prisoners home? Obama could then outsource the FEMA reeducation camps and ship the enemies of his socialist revolution to China.

Before everyone goes all Henny Penny about global population, population growth rates have been steadily declining since their peak in the late 1960s. It took 40 years for the population to double from 3 billion in 1959 to 6 billion in 1999, and it is projected to grow 50% in the 43 years from 1999 to 2042. Current UN projections show population stabilizing and possibly even declining after the middle of the 21st century.

I think China didn't have a choice on the one-child policy.  Too many boys and not enough girls to go around is a recipe for disaster.

I was listening to NPR a while back...they were discussing the fact that there is going to be a major deficit in a couple of areas.  One being breeding, the second being elder care...they mentioned something about the fact that there are more old people than young, and China is going to have a reallllyyy big problem with there not being enough able bodied people to take care of the elderly in the coming years.  This problem has been directly attributed to the misguided theory of population control.

I can't wait about 40 years from now when the Chinese equivalent of Gen X'ers start complaining about the irresponsible selfishness of the previous generation of single children.

This is bad news... currently babies are the only thing not made in China.

Now people are going to outsource their ovaries to china.

So do they need the dudes for invading India again? Vietnam again? Russia again?

When a country filled with 1.4 billion people looks around and says "we need the dudes", you have to ask yourself why.

Modern all-out, toe-to-toe warfare has enormous casualty rates. We're not talking Seal Team Six combat. We're talking nuclear warfare fought against billions of civilians.

Hey, look, just because population bomb scaremongers have been constantly wrong about the effects and path of population growth doesn't mean they we shouldn't sterilize undesirables (which definitely doesn't include me. I'm one of the good ones!) and require licenses for having kids that undoubtedly will be the first licensing program in history that is totally immune to abuse and political pressure.

It's almost as if population never grew to these levels because there were an asston of mitigating factors, like disease and early death, but as we removed those factors, population had explosive growth but now it's leveling to how the normal rate will be under these factors.

This will probably have zero impact on the actual population growth in china. Hell, Taiwan practically pays for the kid and it hasn't made a dent on their population decline.

No, they need females because after all these years of allowing only males to live they all looked around and said, "Oh, great, who the fark is going to do all the hard work now?"

I think the one-child to two-children policy is about 15-20 years too late.

They now have about 3 generations of 1 child per family and once the oldest and the second oldest generation die off, they will see a tremendous drop in the population. Forced labor camps? They'll be lucky if they can afford the people doing their work.

Regardless of what it does to population growth, it will stop some of the horrific and disgusting practices like forced abortions, infanticide, etc.

Fark.  One child was the only thing China was doing right for the rest of the world.  And forget about urbanites - cost of living and education keep those fertility rates in check - they need to keep farmers from farking out a labor force every generation.

Soon after they realize they can't handle feeding all of these extra people they will want to go back to their original policy. Doesn't India have an overbreeding/overpopulation problem? China will become like them soon.

The policy was only for the urban centers anyway. Rural china is being industrialized in the same way the urban areas are. The large family farms are a thing of the past in China and India. You may have pockets of subsistence farming but they are very much disappearing as local governments snarf up common land and hand it over to moneyed interest.

Why? I'm not trying to de-rail or troll the thread but honestly it's not like a self governing Tibet would be any less of an authoritarian shiathole that is abusive to the common people.
