And having written a lot of homophobic notes on receipts, I suspect.

How did the customer know what her lifestyle is?  I didn't realize that the way to tell a woman was a lesbian was the length of her hair.

Still, there was no reason to be nasty.

At the start of the meal was the time to ask for a different server (one with long flowing hair and a tittering laugh), allowing this fella to work another table.

A complete lack of humanity verifies that it was written by a homophobic jerk.

I agree with this whole-heartlessly. George Orwell famously wrote that restaurant waiters are basically class enemies of the proletariat, they use a fluke in history to insinuate themselves like parasites between the labour of the working cook and the customer paying for the fruits of that labour. I cannot condone the lifestyle of any person who would willingly participate in that kind of vile exploitation. We should all condemn this woman and all the other evil swine who wish to extinguish the true worker's spirit. !No Pasaran!

Oh, I agree.  Someone above asked how this (probably fictional) man could tell she was a lesbian.

Yeah, you can get beat up or murdered for being gay but I don't buy the idea someone would leave a rude letter instead of a tip, seems a bit extreme.

That's good to hear.  This sort of treatment of others just distresses me, is all.

Whether it's to buy pretty bows and scented candles, or softball cleats and finger-less gloves, everyone deserves to make a living.

I mean, it says merchant copy. Are the people crying fake suggesting she actually filled out the customer copy and left the merchant copy there, blank? If a server is going to forge a merchant copy, the tip would be higher. Not zero.

Well, this wasn't about that.  It was about being too cheap to kick in a tip and justifying it by making it the server's fault.

This is like when Kitchen Nightmares went to that crazy restaurant in Arizona and the owners were horking the servers tips (and said that they'd fired about 100 of them since they opened a few years ago).  There were comments in the news stories saying "Good for (the owners).  Those servers need to learn to pull themselves up by their bootstraps."  In the same instance, the owners are clearly doing the wrong thing and are justifying it by saying that they're doing the servers a favor by screwing them over.

After inspecting the handwriting, the numbers look slightly different than the note.

To be fair, if you're behaving in such a way that customers can tell what your sexuality is as a damned waiter, then you don't really deserve a tip.  An acceptable waiter is polite but doesn't push themselves on people, and a good waiter makes ninjas wish they had his powers of stealth.

A waiter that tells you a long-winded story about their wife or whatever when you're trying to enjoy your coffee should be subject to capital punishment.

While it might be harder to tell with women, I've had plenty of flouncy gay male waiters. And physically, this women screams lesbian.

Well obviously they wanted to do that because they haven't ever been on the internet and seen the street justice that 4chan and reddit people throw at non-tippers who leave notes.

You don't antagonize someone and leave your name.

because if there is one thing humans don't do, it's make assumptions about people based on their looks.

now if you'll excuse me, I have to go do the neighborhood watch rounds. someone said there was a black kid in a hoodie lurking about. and we all know what "those" are like..

"I am THOROUGHLY offended, mad, pissed off and hurt that THIS is what her kids will grow up learning and that I served in the Marines to keep ignorant people like them free,"

Eh, no need to get worked up over spawn73's stupid comment. I was a pilot in the Core, and I'm used to hearing that kind of crap all the time from idiots who weren't man enough to risk giving their lives for this wonderful country.

Protesting about anything before all of your food and beverages are served is a dangerous game.  Things happen to meals if the staff doesn't like you.  If you face an intolerable situation in a restaurant the best thing for you to do is to settle whatever you already owe and just walk away, perhaps chatting with the manager on the way out if it's really warranted.
