Milwaukee police had gone to the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin to arrest the man on a felony warrant, but instead of surrendering, he took out a handgun and fled down a hallway, prompting police to shoot him, Clarke said.

Why would you serve a felony arrest warrant inside a hospital?  What kind of Keystone cops to they have in Milwaukee, anyway?

Cops actually fail their entrance exam if they get too many correct answers.

Think about that for awhile. Reno 911 was less a comedy than I'm comfortable with.

I say the same thing about most no-knock raids at home at 3am. Why wouldn't you wait until they were out in the open? Unless there is already a hostage situation going on, I think it's just making things more difficult.

I was there today. The hospital has lots of open entrances and unsecured hallways. Front doors have a sticker claiming gun free zone. Now there's talk of installing metal detectors, but those don't do anything without a posted guard.
The guy was visiting his baby peacefully before the cops showed up.
Actually I work in the next building over so don't know anything that wasn't announced. Just that it was over in 15 minutes with no one (else) hurt.

The lockdown lasted for about two hours after Milwaukee police shot and arrested Ashanti Hendricks, 22, who was visiting a baby on the Newborn Progressive Care Unit of the hospital.
Hendricks was shot in the wrist after he threatened officers with a gun, authorities said.

He said the Milwaukee Police Department would investigate its officers' use of force, but told reporters it was too early to be "second-guessing" them for opening fire inside the hospital. "These things rapidly evolve and you're going to do in your best judgment what you think is necessary to get these violent indivduals in custody, and it doesn't always go according to Hoyle," he said, referring to a strict rulebook for games. He added, "I'll tell you a better question, though: What's this idiot doing in a neo-natal care unit with a handgun?"

Here's an ever better question: you knew a suspected felon would show up at the hospital for the birth of his kid and you let him get all the way into the neo-natal unit?

Sheriff Clarke said that, not Flynn, which is sort of ironic considering Clarke is well known for advocating that everyone have a gun everywhere as a solution to all of society's ills.

Google Milwaukee sheriff David Clarke. He is one of God's special creatures. Try "David Clarke penis envy" if the results aren't interesting enough at first.

Actually surprised this doesn't happen more often. Consider that several times a month a major children's hospital will have have children who have been abused by their parents/others and generally have really crappy security guards. The venn diagram overlap between people who beat their kids and who probably wouldn't mind shooting that "biatch doctor" who is taking their kids away is likely considerable. I know there were times where I felt somewhat threatened when I was on my child protection month and I am a big 6'2" 235# dude.

Not exactly. No police officer is going for some trick shot in order to be a swell guy. I'm sure the cop was going for center mass and missed, catching the guy in the arm. That the shooting stopped when the fellow was no longer a lethal threat does show some laudable restraint.

Apparently, cops who spend enough time gaming to know Hoyle, but not enough time studying to know critical thinking skills.

It's simple - the cops don't want to admit that they staked out the guy's pregnant wife or girlfriend, waiting for him to show up to visit his kid, so they could ambush him and serve a felony warrant. He's already wanted for a felony, morons - how about you just keep an eye on him, wait for him to leave, and quietly arrest him outside the damned hospital? No, in their eagerness, they spooked him in the hospital. He pulls out a gun and takes off, and the cops... start... shooting... in... A... GODDAMNED... HOSPITAL!

I wonder what that cop's excuse would've been had he hit, say, someone else's newborn kid in the neo-natal unit? Farking moron.
