I can't find it online, but, there is a Far Side with a baby in a bottle on a mantle (like a ship in a bottle).

Would have been appropriate in this thread.

The labor charges are going to be ridiculous

I am not an obstetrician, but isn't pulling on the baby by its head a bad idea?

That's pretty much what forceps do. But I think the head has to be crowned to use forceps, with this the baby doesn't appear to need to be in the birth canal.

Well, that'll teach the little bastard to not be so stubborn.

Yeah, but this looks like it's one of those "last resort" type measures you do when it's down to doing this or the baby and mom may die.

couldn't be worse than what they had to do to get my son out. we needed 5 nurses holding and pushing and a vacuum sucker. poor kids head looked like marge simpson's for about a week.

Let me get this straight: plastic bags are now good for babies?

They currently use either forceps or a vacuum plunger to grab the kids head and yank... this simply spreads all of those pulling forces over a larger area, so less stress.

Very cool idea, and looks like it would be relatively cheap materials.

/Still worse than letting nature take its course, i.e. no medical intervention needed... but when it is, I'd prefer this to forceps!

Make sure you remove the bag after you remove then with this tool, or they'll end up growing into it and you won't be able to remove it.

Do you get a 5ct discount if you bring your own bag to the delivery room?

It should work fine as long as the kid's brain doesn't pop out through the soft spot.

Why not just blow air in past the obstruction and allow pressure to shoot the bastard out? Ever seen a pig give birth? Just a little pressure will send it flying.

I know you were kidding but it's dangerous to blow air into the womb. Something called an air embolism could happen.

I wish science would come up with an easier way to get IN there.

Sounds like a wise idea.
