Articles like that make me feel old.

You know, threads like this really make me think of the days when Fark was amazing, the glory days when you went on Fark and laughed your ass off.  I dunno, I guess I am just getting old.

I am sure we would all rather talk about things that make us feel young, but they are few and far between.

That stuff doesn't make me feel old. It just makes me remember how fun it was to hang out with my big brother on Friday nights and watch Happy Days; it doesn't make me want to go back to that time.

FTFA:
It's as if every vintage of myself must give way to some other one: my young self was awful, but at least it was young, while my older self is smarter, but old.

My younger self wasn't married to a post menopausal woman with a total hip replacement, and thus, got laid *WAY* more often.

STFU n00b.  You don't know jack shiat about the way Fark used to be.  You're lucky I don't bust out some of the Krav Magna that I learned back in the Marine Core.

You are only as old as you feel, now if you are feeling a 19 year old blonde with great boobs...........

We could drop a quad whenever we needed help soonish.

A hedgehog was also killed.

Oh, yeah, I learned that back when FLYNAVY and I were pilots flying C-5A fighters together back on the USS Ticonderoga.

I hate people who do this shiat. Stop living in the past. Stop comparing everything now to things back when.

I have some friends who still cling on to everything of like 20 years ago. Fine, if that's what they want to do but it's so annoying.

As a pre-teen once said to allegations that she was farking her 30-something producer, age ain't nuttin' but a number.

She sounds relatively content with her age and is not expressing a desire to regain her youth. Surely this will not make any FARK posters go frothing loony.

I'm somewhat the opposite, where I like to tell younger relatives or coworkers how silly some things were in the 80's (and now even the 90's).  Just don't cling to those things and you'll be OK.

Eh, just go back to putting lipstick on your cat's ass...once you manage to get out of that slatted chair.

And off my damn lawn while you're at it, whippersnapper.

The only thing that makes me feel old (except being old) is when they announce which players are eligible for the Hall of Fame and there's always 2 or 3 that I didn't realize had retired. 20 year anniversaries of CDs don't really do it for me like that.

You can tell the Author of TFA is female.  What most our age see as universal reminders of milestones that might elicit fond memories, she interprets as a queue to "lament her age" as "time compresses" on her.  LIghten up, Francis, or maybe up the meds.

Wasn't that on Aenima?

But yeah, blows my mind every time I hear Nirvana on a classic rock station. Just like it blew my mind a few years back to hear Guns & Roses.

Hell, there's a Firebird on my street with ANTIQUE plates!
I just shake my head as I drive by and continue feeling older.

The ONLY thing that youth has to recommend it is physical health - every other aspect of life improves as we get older.

I pity anyone too young or too stupid to realize this fact.

Holy crap, NPR.

You could say that in half the time, with twice the insight, if you just dialed back the pathetic me-me-me shiat.

Look if you want to stay forever young all you have to do is sing Radiohead at the top of your lungs, have your friends meet you at the spot and dance on every bar. Also respond to anyone who tells you to grow up that you dont know us. That way hey you'll hey stay hey forever young.

Yesterday I said to some young co-workers that I remember watching Nixon on TV as he gave his resignation speech. They all laughed.

I see the world through the same eyes I saw it when I was 13:  the eyes of a very cranky old man.

On the plus side, I seem to get a little younger as I grow a little wiser.

It is easy to be bored when you are an ignorant child and have no ideas of what you could be doing instead of moaning, but how you can be bored with the death clock ticking, I don't know.

Cast off the high seriousness of youth and prepare to enjoy the gay frivolity of senility. I still love the old cartoons and books of my childhood but I get quite a few more of the jokes.

I have a theory. People go through cycles of about five to six years. At the top of each cycle they are like Seniors, at the top of their social and aspirational world, in control, having it all figured out. They can be quite confident and charming. They have finally figure out how things work. Then they start the next cycle and they plummet to the bottom.

The school system fosters this to some extent with its division into lower grades, middle school, high school, and so forth, but it carries through life.

You start out a powerless baby and soon you are an obnoxious toddler. By five or six you are almost human. And then they send you to school.

You go through the grades one at a time, learn to play the game, and you get to the top of the elementary school system--and then it's on to middle school.

The fourth graders on South Park know what I mean. They were reluctant to leave fourth grade because fifth grade meant everything changes. Spelling starts to matter more than the creative use of crayons, for example.

And the episode pictured above where Stan sees everything as shiat is the bottom of another stage, the beginning of a scary new world. It's a brilliant if crude metaphor for becoming a teenager. Everything changes: the rose bushes turn back into horse manure.

Nostalgia will get you over and over again if you look backwards at the low points of your live or even at the high points. Everything was simple, and then it became complex. Entropy won the game or lost it, but now you face the whole cycle over again.

Through your entire life you will be forced into new worlds every few years, according to rhythms established by biology or society or your own personal dialectic of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis.

Some people may be prone to always looking backwards, some to always looking forwards, but most of us cycle through the seven stages of grief or the seven ages of man over and over again, like so many souls caught up in the cycle of reincarnation and karma (or Dharma).

Not to worry. The waves roll on forever on the oceans of time. Don't worry about the past. You'll be back in diapers soon enough and probably much too soon.

It will be awhile before the players younger than me making it into HoF will retire.

Hey, at least the grocery store is finally playing some decent music while I shop: Talking Heads, B-52s, the Cure, etc.

/There are good things about finally becoming that coveted 35-54 demographic, ya know.

This would be the guidelines for those of us who've passed out of the 18-34 demographic.

\oddly enough, I only really got into this stuff in the past ten years, and I'm barely out of the aforementioned demographic.

I disagree. I've got some male friends who post the "can you believe it's been ? years since..." stuff all the time. It's like they're living time relative to 1986.
