Put the pictures of missing people on the deer.

Think outside the box, people!

This.  You're going to have hundreds of people in the woods looking carefully for any movement.  If he's alive, they'll find him.  If not, then it won't matter if it takes a couple more days to find his body.

Have you checked Florida?

First day of firearm deer season is like a national holiday in MI.

True, even the schools are closed.

A few years ago, I knew a guy that had a pulmonary embolism at his house in rural West Virginia on the first day of deer season.  Je was practically dead when his wife found him and called for an ambulance.  It took almost an hour before an ambulance showed up because they were having trouble finding volunteer EMT's and drivers because all of the fire department guys were in the woods hunting.

2013-11-14 02:10:09 PM
Well they're not going to find anyone if they all get shot, subby.

2013-11-14 02:18:09 PM
It is too late to stop hunting season. How would you communicate to ALL the hunters?

Given that the hunters will be out there you don't really want to fill the woods with searchers who are not wearing orange. That would just turn a the tragedy in to a larger tragedy. "4 volunteers show while searching for missing person" type stuff.

Also, the hunters will be combing the woods.

2013-11-14 02:19:51 PM
Yeah, subby, you apparently have no idea of the sheer number of people there are in the woods of Michigan on the opening day of deer season....hint...it's a LOT!!

Here in Michigan there is always a running contest for how long it takes for the first hunter to shoot himself or his buddy or fall out of a tree etc.   It's always within the first hour or two, sometimes it even comes the day before.

Especially because the missing guy is dressed like a deer.

Same with the first snowmobiler that falls through the ice or a sledder killed going too fast on a corner.

Or check his house. These stories always have search parties combing hundreds of square miles of wilderness and the guy almost always turns up within a few hundred yards of the house.

I got a 2-point this morning.... (um.... doe). To my wife's credit? The thermostat was turned down low and when she woke up? She had a couple of "points" showing through her nightgown.

/I get to go out tomorrow and hunt Bambi's Mom

2013-11-14 02:34:27 PM
Half my office out tomorrow for either Hunting or PS4 release.  Kind of amusing.

When I worked in PA (Coudersport), they offered time and a half for anyone who volunteered to work the first day of hunting season.  Easy money for a non hunter.....

I grew up in Michigan and always loved the opening of deer season.  Never actually hunted deer, but that meant fewer guys and more women in the bars.

I sure hope this guy doesn't have any enemies, that would be one hell of an opportunity.

I had some last year that someone brought to work. I didn't care for it. Of course, it could have been because he sucks at making it but I've nothing to compare it too.

Why do you think the big sale at Birch Run Prime Outlet Mall starting tomorrow is called Deer Widow's Weekend?  At least she'll get a good deal on the dress for his funeral.

You do not.  You.  Do.  Not. go into the woods in Michigan during rifle season if you can avoid it.  People have been known to put paint on their livestock so the cows don't get shot.
