Sure, and MTV will start showing music videos and there'll be a channel devoted to Science Fiction.

The Weather Channel is not abandoning its long-form programming

And something called a "History Channel" that actually talks about historical events.  And an "Arts and Entertainment" channel that talks about a bunch of Louisiana coonasses with long beards pretending to sell duck decoys but actually engaging in goofy slapstick.

I suppose next they'll tell me that History Channel will go back to shows about history and TLC will once again focus on shows that are ultimately educational (instead of being the network for people who have too many kids, are trying to have kids, or are doing asinine things with their kids).

Hell, that's as fanciful as expecting real news on a news channel instead of the sensationalist ratings driven mostly opinion official press release reading bullshiat they all air now.

Enjoy dying with your aging boomers too lazy to change the channel, television.

I wanted to be with Jim Cantore, and talk about the weather.

2013-11-14 11:14:30 AM
And yes, why the fark are there programs about all this other nonsense airing when I want weather information and switch to the Weather Channel?
Has the weather taken a break?

2013-11-14 11:14:53 AM
At the risk of stating the obvious, the only time I ever watch TWC is when there is a monster storm bearing down.  And even then, the network news coverage is at least as good, if not better.

Like I give a flying fark what the weather is like in Billings, Montana when there is a blizzard going on outside my house in NJ.

Wow.  Well said.  I knew there was a reason I don't watch any of that crap.

''Think of it as the ESPN for weather,'' said David Clark, network president.

So they are going to fill their afternoons with four jackaces with idiotic opinions yelling at each other about the weather?

2013-11-14 11:22:02 AM
They drove viewers away with the barely-weather shows, and those viewers now get their weather info from the internet/on their phones.   They're not coming back to the Weather Channel except to watch a 2x4 decapitate Mike Seidel during a hurricane.

A) Turn to the weather channel and wait for the weather that is relevant to me or
B) find relevant weather on my tablet immediately.

If not that, they'll spend the evenings showing things that can only be connected to weather in the most remote of ways. If ESPN thinks poker is a farking sport, TWC is likely to think that reality shows about flying kites are about weather.

I remember coming home from work one day and TWC was following a professor and his students live as their hunt for a tornado reached it's conclusion. They had instrument boxes made from old PCs scattered up an down the country roads, and from a "safe" distance they filmed the entire lifecycle of the funnel cloud. Pretty cool stuff. There was one point where the top of the funnel appeared to break free from the cloud above it and point in the cameras direction, looking like some sandworm in Dune.

That poor son-of-a-biatch.  When is he going to learn that The Weather Channel Brass is hell bent on showing his massacre live on TV?

"This storm is going to feature 50 foot wide bolts of lighting every two seconds??? Send in Mike!  He'll cover anything!!!"

Whether to watch the weather channel or not, that is the question.

I have this channel that has feeds from the various highway cams in my area.  No commercials, just live feeds 24/7 and DOT warnings, info etc..  I'm waiting for them to sell out and have reality tv shows or some crap.

Tango? I usually just leave it on when doing something else for the music.
/In Philly, it's a sub-digital channel to available through an antenna; no cable needed.

Of course, it will be about how the weather is caused by aliens.

Good, now we need to talk to Discovery Channel and actually get nature shows back on the air, and TLC get educational programming back. "My Strange Addiction" There is nothing to learn there, and do not even mention Honey farking Annoying Brat.

The one long form show they have (I think) that I like is How Weather Changed History. It was pretty intresting to see how weather played a roll in the outcome of a historical event.

I think that's what is is but I don't see any philly traffic just crap north of it

Maybe I'll watch it on New years day when I know they'll be drunk drivers or bad storms...

There's just something about Al Roker that makes me want to punch him in the face.

You know what the Weather Channel is for? It's for checking the weather on the 8's and having on in the lobby.

Now I feel old. Maybe I'll tune into MTV and watch some classic music vid... oh dagnabit.

2013-11-14 02:33:50 PM
If I want to see my local forecast on the 8s, I have to switch from the HD channel to SD. Can they fix that?

/ I think it's Comcast's fault

People still watch MTV?

2013-11-14 04:43:18 PM
Hmm.  I posted this to their feedback forum a few days ago regarding the website:

"How about less shower-naming, shark and spider displaying, and general fearmongering. More actual WEATHER FACTS rather than fear-based crap being pushed by some marketing dink. You can't even get your daily forecast and your hourly forecast to match, but you sure as hell can tell people a friend is at risk from a scary batch of sprinkles halfway around the globe. You've lost your way, and you aren't the only game in town."

Who else you want me to crank?

2013-11-14 05:45:29 PM
Odd that naming every winter storm didn't result in a ratings juggernaut.

2013-11-14 05:58:33 PM
I used to have to wait at least 10 minutes before seeing what the weather will be for the current day or week when I tuned into TWC. But now that U-Verse has an instant weather app channel, I use it instead.

Yes, and when their app turned into a giant advertisement that might also have some weather info, they lost me there, too.

thank you one and all. it's nice to see so many kindred spirits. TWC "long form" stuff is crap for the most part and repeated ad infinitum. thanks to TWC i have developed a raging hatred of the coast guard especially those in AK.
