Obviously this police work is alimentary.

FTA: Officers discovered that the women had inserted dozens of rolls of cash into their body cavities. Together, they produced multiple rolls of 500-euro bills totaling about €400,000. The Marechaussee said it took several days for everything to be removed.

If they had found my car keys they could have driven it out of there.

Not like the old days, when you could hear subby's Ted Cruz's mom walking to the door with that clink, clink, clink of quarters rolling onto the floor.

I know that in the US you have to declare any money you're bringing through customs over $10,000.  I assume there is a similar rule in the Netherlands and that the €8,000 was undeclared and exceeded this limit.  Otherwise, why would travelling with cash reasonably compel someone to submit to a strip search?

2013-11-14 02:21:26 PM
So, any idea WHY they had the money with them?

Sure wouldn't have taken that long in New Mexico.

It's $10,000 there also.  But customs/local laws probably have a lot of wiggle room about suspicion, etc. if the money was 'hidden'.  Which is funny because if they put 4k each in their purses no one would care.  That's 8 bills. Compared to the 80 they had stuffed in em.

The Irresponsible Captain: So, any idea WHY they had the money with them?

Coming from/going to Ecuador?  Drugs.

I like Schiphol. It's a beautiful airport and clean. Having the trains below is a plus.

Mind they don't accidentally send you to Berlin...

Yes. It was my first time. No I don't want to discuss it. Scheiße!

It's 10,000 euros coming in to any country in the EU (may not include Norway and Switzerland). The Netherlands has a policy of interviewing anyone bringing in over 5,000 euros to check if there is any reason to be suspicious.
