(Examiner)   A diamond called "The Pink Star" was sold for a record-breaking $83 million in Geneva. All I can even think to say is that if I had $83 million, it would not be spent on a rock. Maybe lots of other stupid stuff, but not a rock   (examiner.com ) divider line

With regards to the super wealthy --- I know it's their money to spend and all, but it would be nice if we saw more philanthropy and charity and less conspicuous consumption.

For example (in the U.S.):  That $83 million could have supported about a dozen rural public schools for a decade.  Instead, it gets spent on a rock.

Well not only that but it was De beers who dug it up.  Keeping the diamond monopoly going strong yay.
