Well, the Pope's trying to clean up the Vatican Band, so this is not surprising. I doubt the Mafia will put a hit out on the Pope, however.

The Catholics have their own share of right wing loons, especially on religious issues, so I'd expect something from someone inside the faith.

No mafioso would dare touch da Pope. They would be instantly hated across Italy and the world and probably hunted down in days.

Nah he will be poisoned by one of his cardinals for bringing Christ back to the center of it instead of the Pope.

Pope Paul I was allegedly killed for opening an investigation into the Vatican Bank and its mafia ties. Coppola openly made it a major plotline of Godfather III.

I think you mean John Paul I. Paul I died over a thousand years ago, if memory serves.

Maybe the Pope will suggest that people can't literally pay cash for their sins anymore. If he does that, and purges the church of pedophiles, I may even consider joining.

Nice Vatican ya' got here. Shame if something were to happen to it. I hear you got this chapel wot's got paintin's on the ceiling. I heard that some Jews over in Israel had something like dat too. I heard that someone come in the middle of the night and put two coats - not just one but two coats of Behr Premium Interior all over them pictures. Ruined 'em. Real shame. Them Jews woke up, went in there fer breakfast and saw what happened. And you know what? Dey' started crying cause their purty pictures got painted over. Sad. But nuttin' like that is gonna happen here, right?

In other words, you're saying Pope Francis is on a mission from God?

The mob won't, but someone in VC that isn't happy with what he's doing will. Then they will blame the mob

Paul I died in 767. Succeeded his younger brother after he died fairly early, ruled for 10 years, died at 67 years old. Continued his brother's alliance with the Franks. Seems like he was an incredibly unexciting pope.

I'll get on the Atheist Hotline and put in a good word for the late Saint Francis, I mean, the Holy Father.

Little Known Fact: The prayers of atheists are High Priority and answered in the order in which they are received. Most prayers from the Faithful are asking for something. Rain. Peace. Less humiliation for the Red Sox. But the prayers of atheists are assumed to be emergency calls.

Only grandmothers' prayers get higher priority.

They're considered moles in the enemy camp. Red Flashy Light stuff.

Paul VI? Or Jean Paul I? Most likely JP1, I would think.

Frankie knows all about "sleeping with the fishes".  From TFA:

The Religion News Service report also mentioned that Francis addressed corruption as recently as Monday. In doing so he quoted the words of Jesus from the Gospel of St. Luke:

"It would be better for (the corrupt man) if a millstone were put around his neck and he be thrown into the sea," he said.
