(Huffington Post)   Ted Cruz's father explains...sexual perversion due to atheism? Hey now, as a high level militant atheist, we're not perverts *at all*. Now if you excuse me, I have to go peg some Christians in the basement   (huffingtonpost.com) divider line 115

It's basic riling up you base 101.

Speaker: Say anything bad about atheist, homosexuals, or minorities (dog whistle optional) regardless of how honest it is (intellectually or otherwise).

Crowd: React like a pack of rabid howler monkeys.

Pretty standard stuff, and it never seems to get old

IlGreven: Lionel Mandrake: And of course, this leads us -- when there are no moral absolutes -- leads us to sexual immorality, leads us to sexual abuse, leads us to perversion. And, of course, no hope. No hope.

You mean moral absolutes like "thou shalt not kill"  And yet, I have a sneaking suspicion that Sr. Cruz is pro-death penalty.

Mr. Cruz,

We atheists get our morals from observation of the world around us and compassion for our fellow man.

You get your morals from a book.

Who has the moral high ground, again?

/Yes, I did say this to Sarah Palin.  And I will say it to any Christian who claims that atheists have no morals.

You don't need to be Christian to be moral

and wouldn't it be immoral to say you follow a particular creed but exhibit behavior that goes against said creed?

And here you have it.
I find liberals horrifying for having no moral standards, and conservatives appalling for claiming to have them and then betraying them.

We used to have this thing called civic virtue that transcended politics. Now it's the party of depravity versus the party of bullshait.

Lionel Mandrake is making perfect sense. I need to start drinking earlier...

(And yes, the death penalty is just wrong. Get with the thou shall not kill program, GOP)

Why does it always seem to be youth pastors and priests who are molesting kids then?

And of course, this leads us -- when there are no moral absolutes -- leads us to sexual immorality, leads us to sexual abuse, leads us to perversion. And, of course, no hope. No hope.

Let's think this all the way through.

Is there anything your god could command of you that you would refuse to do because it was cruel or evil?

1) If you answered no, then this is not morality, this is merely might makes right. Also, stay the fark away from me, psycho!
2) If you answered yes, then you have some other, non-god, standard of what is right and wrong
3) If you answered "my God would never ask me to do something so horrible, see #2

Where else would you get a free, rotating supply? You already have the unquestioning respect of authority. . .

/when your beliefs are based on fear, it's not hard to exploit further

I have a conjecture I haven't seen duplicated before:  the guilt they feel with respect to sex is universal, so they don't(or can't for priests) target healthy outlets for sexual urges.  This manifests in illegal, harmful sexual acts seeming equal to any sex, and they, being human, express those urges anyways.

more proof that religion makes people stupid.

The full answer could fill several books, but the short version is they don't just "love" kids, they love kids.  They love teaching, care-giving, supporting, and eventually inappropriately touching.

Yeah it's farked up, that's the whole deal, they're farked up.

vernonFL: As a kinky bisexual who grew up Catholic, im really getting a kick out of these replies. You think you know kinky, but you dont.

/Okay, you do

Recovering Catholic. Atheist. Bi. Kinky BD. I think may be due to being forced during my teenage years to tell/confess to older men I jacked off to my dad's Playboys.

So...net win?
