The take on Bennett was that he was "very raw" coming in to the draft but that he had the greatest potential upside - not much of a surprise that he's struggled especially considering Brown is a defense first guy.

I'm not saying he's going to be great or even good - far too early to tell, but it ISN'T a surprise he's had a rough transition so far.

Not much of a surprise there, as a UNLV fan I couldn't believe they picked him #1 in the draft.

My birthday present to myself is to take 3 people to Cleveland for the Jags/Browns "game" in two weeks. We'll arrive Saturday at about 6pm- where should we go for dinner and what should we do after? We were originally planning on going to Cavs/Bulls, but one ticket would have cost what all 4 Browns tix did and then some.

Super stoked about outdoor football in December.

/was going to make a "I drove 800 miles for THIS?" sign, but we'll be too far from the field.
//if the stadium is 75% empty by Q4, will they let me move down?
///could prolly get on TV if it's a 9-6 asstacular crapfest with that sign

You will be the only 4 people on Earth driving from Florida to Cleveland for that gem.  Classic.

As far as where to eat and what to do on a Saturday night, I'm the wrong guy to ask anymore.  I went to a high school reunion a few years ago at a club downtown.  I was shocked by the dress and behavior of the 20 somethings that arrived later in the night.  The line into old guy was crossed.  There's no going back.

When it comes to crashing better seats late in the game, it may be possible.  My son and I attended the Ravens game a few weeks ago (1st game in 10 years after previously being a season ticket holder) and sat way high in the upper deck.  That stadium is seriously tall.  After the 3rd qtr, we got cold and decided to go downstairs to find some better seats.  Although we ultimately decided just to leave, it looked to me like a "look like you belong there" approach along with pre-scouted empty seats would have a really good chance of working.

Have fun in Cleveland.  Don't freak out if you have to drive in snow.  Find a parking lot to practice stopping and turning and then just slow down and maintain clearance on the roads.

No, but even ignoring how the other rookies are only marginally good this year, Bennett's looking truly awful, more like a borderline 2nd rounder.  The first picks of the draft ought to produce right away unless they're hurt.

Assuming you're staying downtown and dont want to drive/cab anywhere, I'd recommend going to any of the restaurants on E 4th. Zocalo is solid Mexican/SW fare, and Lola is Michael Simons "flagship" restaurant. There is also Brasa, a Brazilian steakhouse on w. 9th if you want to stuff yourselves. As far as the bar scene, I'd say to check out Map Room and the bar nearby. Crowded, but they're not douchey clubs.

If you want to cab it, I second goin to W 25th and Great Lakes brewing company for dinner. The bars in that neighborhood are are generally microbrew and craft brew type joints.

We're actually from St. Louis, but we have to make a couple of detours on the way that bring the total up to about 800.

Not sure if it still runs, but Great Lakes used to have a shuttle to Cleveland sporting events. It was biodiesel, so they called it the Fatty Wagon.
Also, you're not far from the Christmas Story House. Some guy bought the house for the exterior shots in the movie and turned it into a museum and the like. http://www.achristmasstoryhouse.com/

I'd wait for completion of the proposed >$120M 'update' to be paid for by an extension of the 'sin' tax. Improvements include a 'scoreboard' (vs the one provided from the original $283M) and escalators! Yes, that's correct an 'update' that is nearly 1/2 the original cost of the entire building that is <15 years old. The good thing is is used <20 days per year so this update will really last!

Think about it:  Cavs draft Oledipo, he and Irving form the most exciting backcourt in the East and one of the best in the league.  LeBron looks at those two and says "Yeah, I'm heading back to Cleveland."

Fair enough, but it still doesn't justify wasting the 4th pick in a decent draft on a crappy player like Waiters.

I grew up in Cleveland. Haven't been there in years, but I'll try to help.

Depending on road conditions, take a drive through the Emerald Necklace. Could be gorgeous in the winter, depending on traffic.

The neighborhoods Ohio City and Tremont have good restaurants and bars. So do W.25th and the other areas already mentioned. There are a couple spanoptika/oregano pie places around W.25th, good and really cheap. I live in California, so now the Asian and Latin food in Cle doesn't seem that good . . . If I were you, I'd seek out fattening East European food, pizza, that sort of thing.

If there is anyone playing that you like, go to a concert. Most of the best shows I've seen were in Cleveland. For one thing, the crowds are better than anywhere else.

The Cleveland Museum of Art is great and free. The drive there, once off the freeway, is quite nice too.

Just walking around downtown could be fun. Old building to look at and so on.

Oh, and the Heisman house is in that neighborhood, Ohio City, that I mentioned . . If you want to look at a house that looks a lot like the other houses near it, but has a plaque in the yard. I never looked into it, but maybe you can go inside?  http://www.clevelandareahistory.com/2009/11/birthplace-of-john-w-heis m an.html
