That got me too. This guy apparently was able to form a company that, according to the video, releases one new youtube video once every 2 to 3 months. I wish I had a job with those sort of deadlines.

THey pay you a good bit to spam their ads on the vids... you know those annoying as hell ads in front of your vid you want to watch?? YEAH.. those.
And no, adblock does not block them all.

Plus it demonstrates his skills to be used in other projects (like the RSPCA advert in his channel). In fact, he is STILL an advert animator. He uses the cat to advertise himself.

He even did print syndication in one of the British papers for a while.  He's no Jim Davis, but he has the whole multimedia thing going.
