Actually they made $13620.  Take that Subby!

Oh, wait......

I didn't know Samsung made more money than Apple. That is insane.

Didn't Romney make more?

Or, to look at it another way, those Apple shares I bought a few years back have earned me several seconds worth of the ENTIRE FARKING COMPANY'S income.

And I get three or four good years of use out of a laptop whose purchase supplies 1/3 to 1/2 second of the company's income.

Let's see, I make almost a half-penny per second, but that's all I need!

It has been changing since the competition has gotten more cut throat between them, but Samsung used to make the screen, processor, and flash memory for the iPhone and iPad.

So every time Apple built an iPhone or iPad, Samsung would make money off it.

Not that any of this money is of any good to Steve Jobs now.

Yes but this is about how much Apple makes and how they make more than anyone else including Samsung. They only make the money because of Apple anyway Shhhh...

And now they don`t they still make 50% more money? Was that your point? Or was your point my first (sarcastic) point that Apple just make more money than anyone else and the only way anyone else could is off Apples back?

Apple makes computers, phones, tablets, and software. Samsung makes apparel, chemicals, consumer electronics (including computers, tablets, phones), electronic components, medical equipment, precision instruments, semiconductors, ships, offshore plants, wind power generators, electric power & control systems, telecommunications equipment. It provides some services too - advertising, construction, entertainment, financial services, hospitality, information and communications technology services, medical services, retail. Though counter may have only included subsidiary - Samsung Electronics.Samsung Group is 5 times bigger though, or 3 times, if counting Samsung Electronics only. So per employee, Apple still wins.

4540 in two hours isn't that great subby.

v0x0: Though counter may have only included subsidiary - Samsung Electronics

Looked up numbers for 2012 (billions, USD):
Samsung Group: 286
Samsung Electronics: 187
Apple: 170

So counter used parent group revenue, not just SE. Apples to oranges. Or rather, Apple to some ship builder, t-shirt maker conglomerate.

They don't. This site uses revenue, which is a strange definition for "making money". For example, Amazon is included on this site even though they lost money last year.

If I've done my currency conversion correctly, Samsung's net income was $22B in 2012; Apple's was $41B.

and the Communist Workers (Foxconn) who manufactured all those goodies got it up the ass.  (and with no bathroom breaks)

and the stockholders (Owners) and big brass are laughing all the way to their tax dodging swiss bank accounts.

For Now.

Android, if you've been reading the news in the last couple of days, has 81% of the worldwide market now.  Apple be in trouble in the mid/long term.

My point was that Samsung is such a gigantic company with so many product lines even Apple has a hard time not using their parts in the iPhone and iPad. I just read an article recently where their new vendor for iPad Mini Retina displays isn't doing the volume they need, so they have been talking to Samsung.

...and they only care to pay their employees unfair wages.

I don't understand how anyone can reasonably support this company with any kind of purchase.

So you're saying that proliferation of Google's Android OS will help Samsung increase average shipbuilder employee productivity, so they will be able to bring in as much revenue as software/hardware engineer? I doubt that.

Android won't help much Samsung's sales/margins on phones either. Samsung is one of many Android phone makers, that primarily has to compete against LG, HTC, even Google. This brings prices down.

As far as Apple's troubles in short/long term - that's one thing that I do not doubt: once you on the top, there is only one way to go. Trouble may even has arrived already - its name is Carl Icahn.

Samsung also makes air conditioners, washer and dryers, refrigerators, not to mention a whole slew of other tech but non-phone/computer related items (blu-ray players, tvs, stand-alone cameras, etc.)   I'm not surprised they make as much money as they do, but people think Samsung and think phones even though there is a lot more to them than that.

Apple pays its engineers highly because they provide a specialized skill and their supply is relatively low. Apple pays its assembly line workers (indirectly via companies like Foxconn) low wages because there are a large number of people willing due to the work and the skills required are not specialized.

Every company pays employees based on supply and demand. Every corporation's duty is to maximize profit for its shareholders.

I'd be fascinated to hear about the company that pays all employees "fairly" (whatever that means) from which you buy your electronics.

Friend of mine just bought a Samsung washer/dryer pair that have frickin' WiFi and an app for your phone that will tell you when your clothes are done or let you modify the cycle... cool except when it inevitably breaks...

As low as US$350/month wages at a Foxconn plant might sound to us in the Western world, there has to be something about it that's preferable to subsistence farming, or else the factories wouldn't be full of workers who left their homes behind and live in cramped company dormitories for the opportunity to make that much.
