OK.The UN has proven a decent umbrella organization under which to organize charitable efforts, but as an actual peacekeeping organization, I'm forced to question how much it has actually helped. Indeed, it's not hard to argue that some of the UN's actions have done more harm than good as far as this goes. The Olympics have probably done more when it comes to stopping war.
mod3072: Between the War on Drugs and the War on Terrorism, universal surveillance of private citizens, segregation, McCarthyism, internment of citizens in WWII, the Espionage and Sedition Acts of WWI, Union busting, racial discrimination in immigration and citizenship laws, slavery, etc. etc. the US lost the high ground on basic human rights a long time ago. Oh sure, we still like to lecture the rest of the world about their abuses, but we turn a blind eye to our own.
