log_jammin: what an informative advertisment article.

Yeah, that was beyond pathetic... Two short paragraphs stating what the product is and what line of products its from, and then stating the alcohol content and the "ZOMG LIMITEED TIME ONLEE!!" crap? It'd be interesting if the author had actually tried the damn thing or something, but this is basically "Okay InBev, where's my paycheck?"

i'd rather drink bud light than any rita in a can.

/trumer pils is best

I tried the Lime-A-Rita (sp) and it was awful.  I can't imagine this is any better.  I'll stick with beer made from a grain other than rice.

/rice made beer is awful

I'm getting tired of all these annoying craft beers.

A new movie theater recently opened in my town, and it serves alcohol. I Was there and went to order a beer when I learned that everything available was some kind of pale ale or newhouse craft draft, or whatever. I just wanted a friggin Bud or Miller Light, damnit!

I'll stick to drinking a 12 pack of Natty Lite each night, and waiting for my heart attack.

I'd like to see some statistics regarding how much market share the BMC breweries are losing to the Craft market.

But yeah, none of the efforts the big companies have dabbled in are going to persuade me to drink their beverages on the regular again. The drink in the article/advertisement reinforces my thoughts.

Though Coors Batch 19 was okay. Nothing I'd go out of my way for.

/won't ever say no to a lite beer at a cookout

I think they need a new slogan, something along the lines of "bud light:  not just for frat boys, nascar fans, and meth heads.  We now also cater to women willing to lower their already pathetically low standards after drinking anything claiming to be a margarita."

Take a look at how much Budweiser advertises all around you. They have a history as well of buying out breweries, as shown with Goose Island in Chicago. They ain't going anywhere.

PS, fark Pudweiser. For me it's:

All snickers at Lime-a-Rita and Cranberita aside, I've never understood why they feel the need to put "Bud Light" on these canned margarita varieties.

Do they expect the 19 or so people who loyally drink Bud Light to try this stuff because of the branding?

Does slapping "Bud Light" on the side of the can make the product stand out from all the other canned margaritas out there?

I don't have any problem with a major producer buying out or investing in smaller craft breweries. It's the way business works, and large companies will try to break into growing markets.

Inbev has invested in both Rogue and Redhook, two breweries I am very fond of. There hasn't been a change in the beer, and as long as there isn't a negative change, I'll be fine going on liking them.

2013-11-13 05:44:50 AM
I can get 100 different beers from breweries within 5 miles of home.

It's a good time to be a beer drinker in America.

The strawberry one was alright-ish. The straight up lime one tasted like feet. Well, tasted like feet smell, or something.

I like drinking the Lime-a-Ritas while golfing. The small can and limeish taste is quite refreshing after hooking consecutive drives into the woods.
I don't think I could tolerate it at any other time.
I like craft beers as much as the next guy but I don't want to try and down an Old Chub when it is 90 and humid outside.

The only thing under Budweiser I ever enjoyed was B(e) (their beer+energy drink) that was around years ago and short lived. It wasn't SUPER DUPER energy like the energy + alcohol drinks out there.

I used to work on the Coors Distributers Convention and watched their head of marketing do his presentation annually for about 5 years. The only industry I have witnessed playing it's customers more is pharmaceuticals.

The type of people who drink craft beer are to damn smug to have ever bought Bud lite in the first place subby, so no, they're not losing market share to them.

2013-11-13 07:30:15 AM
Yeah when I was kid stealing dad's beer because fark it thats what I had available dad drank Busch Lite(which is basically Bud Lite with a little corn in the mix) So anyways I just dont care for bud lite because it reminds me too much of the nasty assed Busch Lite I stole from dads fridge when I was a whippersnapper. I dont think there is an advertisement AB can put out to get me on the Bud Lite bandwagon.

Rice ain't got no amylase enzymes, so how you gonna break down them starches (aka "mash) without malted barley enzymes?

Ergo, you'll be happy to hear that Budweiser and its ilk are predominantly made from 6-row malted barley, and the rice is only there to increase extract and keep flavors clean and mild!

/work for large craft brewer, have no qualms about BMC beers (this does NOT include the ****-aritas).    Making that kind of beer is very very difficult.

Most people who drink craft beer started out on generic light beer, and I doubt they're afraid to admit it (let alone drink one on occasion). I'd imagine most people who prefer craft beer don't stick to any particular brand, either. There's a lot of variety, and it's hard to stick to a single style or brewery because of that.

Beer snobby as it may sound, I just can't tell much of a difference between the popular generic pilsners. Some people love that, which is fine, but it's just not my preference anymore.

AB ruined one of our first and best local breweries, Old Dominion.  After they bought it, they

Cancelled the yearly beer festival
Stopped filling keg orders
Stopped holding brewery tours
Ceased community involvement (like sponsoring local orgs and sports teams)
Eventually closed down the brewery in the OLD DOMINION state and moved it to Maryland or who knows where

The beer is probably the same, I just won't ever drink it again.  Fark them.

2013-11-13 08:09:31 AM
Anheuser-Busch already bought out and killed my nearby craft brewer (Old Dominion).     They have bought out and are homogenizing into garbage many of the craft guys such as:

Widmer, Goose Island, Kona, Red Hook, Hop Hound, ShockTop, Star Hill while coalescing many of the other big beers (Becks, Labatts, etc...).

I won't shed a tear for them and go back to my bottle of New Belgium.

2013-11-13 08:10:04 AM
People still drink Bud Light?

In what way have Kona and Red Hook changed?

I'm not familiar with most of the others, but wasn't Shock Top a creation of AB?

Production actually went to Delaware.    The confusion is that InBev has also assimilated Fordham (a MD brewery) and has moved production of that to the same out-of-state facility

Not always the case. My dad would drink any form of crap beer years ago but when his friend opened a micro-brewery and introduced him to beer with flavor he has given up on the cheap, flavorless beers.

The most patently false foursome I've seen in a while... until I looked at the state of that bar and realized that they're all there because the bartender (not shown) laid out what appears to be about half a pound of cocaine, which was apparently used to powder donuts consumed by the fake foursome (as no one would leave that much powder on a friggin' bar...)

/Sure, it could be ice, but I think my explanation works better...

They're not as bad as you'd think. It's all subjective of course. Mexicans love to put clamato in a light beer for breakfast. Around here they call it red beer. Sorta like a bloody mary on a budget.

I've known some white trash types who pour sunny d in a miller lite as a budget mimosa.
