A comment on the original article says that it happened last summer. Ephrata certainly doesn't look much like that picture right now.

Most of the fast food places around where I live will only hire mexicans. They might not be stupid enough to place a sign out saying that, but its how it is.

Years ago, i called a police dept in Dade county Fl. inquiring as to if they were currently hiring. The Sgt asked if i was a woman, or....a hispanic, Black, or pacific islander. No, i said, I'm a white male, with years of police work on the street. The Sgt said, "Don't bother, they are only taking applications for women and minorities. Sorry brother."

Also applied at the local police dept, and found that the testing scores for minorities could be much lower for a passing grade, than would be for a white person. i confronted one of the testers, and he said, "its the only way we can get minorities in the force, and their groups off our back". So i said "you would rather hire a minority, than a man who has years of experience, and college in police science and criminal justice?" He had no answer, and just walked away.

Don't know what my point is..just sharing my experience.

/yes, it happened.

I'm guessing this is bogus. Where in the article did they "reach out" to Burger King for comment? Any real journalist would have contacted either the local Burger King or the franchise headquarters for comment.

Some damn Republican has found the loophole in Obama's health insurance.

They don't have to insure you if you're illegal.

Not that there's anything new about that. It's just the first time the booty-strappy McJob Makers have gone public.

Worked for a local pumpkin canning plant a few years ago, as a heavy equipment operator. (pumpkin rower) and no..you dont row pumpkins smart asses, you PUT them in rows with the attachment on a John Deer. Anywho, i noticed that on application day, 99.9 percent of those applying were mexican, and that there were like 4 white guys. The white guys ended up on the tractors, the mexicans ended up in the factory. I asked the HR guy, (who was mexican) why don't you hire local people to work in the factory, instead of shipping employees from Mexico? The money is decent, you can't tell me you cant find ANYONE in this huge city who is not willing to stand and watch cans go by." He said "I don't even bother looking, nor putting ads out. I would rather hire mexicans than anyone from around here, and they work cheaper. Americans demand more money per hour"

I agree.

When I was in high school, late at night a friend and I used to change the letters on the sign of a local fundamentalist church, usually to something obscene. Alcohol may have been involved.

Yeah it happens all over, and for good reasons

Often it is more impt to get minorities into uniform and out on the street so that the cops are not seen as monolithic group of white men. And any minority questioning someone of his group will often get more information than a white guy would.

Your 'grades' don't really reflect or predict how good a cop you will be -- you can be trained to be a good cop if you are the right sort of person, regardless of what your grades show.

Sure you test for basic literacy, but in most cases, exams are just easy ways for hierarchy to make hiring decisions.

/So what you're saying is...the most educated, and experienced person, is not the prime choice for employment? You would rather hire someone who scores a lesser score? With less education, and less actual time on the job? I can see your points you made, just don't understand your logic.

No, it didn't happen. Your dog whistle story is meant to illustrate that blacks, hispanics and women are inferior to white men, and white men are discriminated against in favor of "underqualified minorities." That trope is old, tired and played out, as is your bullshiat story.

I'm not the one claiming that only derpy white liebruls claim ant-white racism doesn't exist. I'm asking if it's existence mitigates white racism.

No, that is the BK one. You can tell by the hideous blue color. I suspect it was done by a disgruntled employee. That is why management should change signs themselves. Then again, I have heard stories about that place that would make me less surprised if it was true.

Yes, exactly that. I'm sure you'd agree that in some circumstances, the "most educated and experienced person" is not the best choice - obvious examples such as if you want ditches dug you pick the strongest guy; if you want a babysitter you pick the kindest person etc etc

Those prob sound like trivial examples, but the point I'm making is that if you were a boss, you could imagine jobs where you would consider a lot of other qualities than test scores.

How about looking at it this way - if you're choosing a sports team, you don't care too much about their academic grades - you choose guys who can fill each role in the side, and there will be a range of roles and skills.

It's the same in a modern police force - you need a team with a range of skills, rather than just the top 50 in a paper exam. You need a number of minorities because that will improve public relations, intelligence etc, and that will translate into a better clearance of crime stats.

It's not just police - there was a time when admission to med school was based solely on exam scores - the top 200 or whatever, got in. But then they realized they were getting too many one dimensional, Aspergers-type doctors lacking in vital empathy skills. So the standards modified to find more rounded candidates.

Story is a sign of the state of journalism in this country.  Didn't take long for Farkers to follow up on this click-bait and expose it, but as we know, this is not a world of Farkers.

Already their Facebook page is flooded with angry white supremacists and angry liberals screaming racism for their own reasons who are all too ignorant to realize that this is bullshiat being promoted as reporting.

Funny, what you say "didn't happen", I've personally see happen, more than once, always times in fields where there just aren't that many candidates available who aren't white men.

When I was at the Chicago Tribune, we had a position open up in my team.  I referred a (highly qualified) friend, after which I was told in no uncertain terms that "we have too many white males in the department", and the next hire had to be a woman, or at least not white.   The position stayed open for a year.

In college (also in Chicago), I worked in one of the department offices, basically a filing clerk.  I watched the department pass over 2 highly qualified adjunct professors for those same reasons (both married white males), instead they searched for six months for a "minority" professor they could afford to hire.  Literally "could afford"; I overhead the search committee discuss various candidates, bemoaning that they would have to settle for a guy from India because they lost bidding wars with other universitys  over the few available woman in the field.

So yeah, it never happens.
