Three forms of proof must be submitted to the city in applying for the benefits.

See, the gay marriage issue has been joined with the health care availability issue for at least 20 years.

Discuss.

FTFA:

On the qualification that relationships must be sexual in order
to be partnerships, Vice Chairman Henderson said, "There may be some husbands and wives out there who do not qualify."

He noted the possibility of sisters living together in a loving relationship, but said they could not qualify because it is "non-platonic."

Not necessarily. I knew a pair of inseparable twins...

I can see an upside to that.

For one thing, if sex is required for people to prove marital relatonships, women who are caught by the "man in the house rule", namely women on welfare who are cut off because they have a male border, will keep their benefits unless the welfare people can prove they are having sex with Roger the Lodger.

Fair is fair. If Rodger the Lodger isn't getting any, Mandy the Randy Landlady shouldn't be considered a 'ho'.

In some states you might actually come out ahead if the sex determination became law. At least I hear conservatives whining all the time about how they are disadvantaged by tax laws. Must be some fire where there is smoke being laid down, even if it is only a sputtering match-stick.

That was not meant as a double-entendre, by the way.

2013-11-12 09:41:49 PM
Whoops! I meant "boarder", not "border". A woman with a male border would be kinda freaky. Either that or really hot.

I'm good with this. They need to get the best talent that they can get in the work force. We all do. When is the BS going to go by the way-side? We're getting there.

The city's going to build one hell of a sex tape library when all the proofs come in.

I think a modified wooden toilet roll holder would probably do the job. In a pinch. Okay that's enough.

Depends on how you pet the turtle and whether you can take three selfie's while doing "it".

I went there with my now ex-girlfriend as well as the aquarium. Then Rock City and then Ruby Falls . The next couple of nights we spent at Fall Creek Falls.

I get mad about all this stuff where you get benefits if you're married (gay or straight). A lot of universities will hire a spouse by creating a new position for him or her in order to attract a candidate to the school. And of course many employers allow a person to share his/her health insurance with a spouse.

Why can't we make these just a plus one? No questions asked. Why should the government/university/insurance company make a value judgment on my relationship? Maybe my relationship with my friend is as significant as someone else's marriage. Maybe it's more so.

I say just make it a plus one and get the government to stop evaluating people's relationships. Of course, it would make more sense if social security (in the broad sense) weren't tied to employment to begin with.

Um...because if it is +1 how do you deal with kids?

As to social security being tied to employment...maybe they do this to ensure the system gets funded. If everyone is a "taker" the system won't work.

I don't mean Social Security; I mean social security-I should have used a different word. In this particular instance, I was referring to the fact that health insurance for the non-elderly and non-disabled has been through your employer. This is as a result of trade unions having negotiated these deals and it became a norm over time, but it's a system that no longer makes sense.

In terms of children, I assume you mean there is the question of whether the children of the plus 1 would be covered. I don't know. That's why our system makes so little sense. I think we ideally should have a good, baseline service for everyone, like Medicaid. And then private insurance on top.

I just lived in Nashville in a past life and I'm back in Huntsville, North Alabama about 1 and 1/2 hours from Chattanooga.

The sponsor of the ordinance wanted to be sure that benefits were provided to same-sex couples.  Which is great. However, about 10 years ago the red-necks in this state passed a Constitutional amendment banning both same-sex marriages and acknowledgement of same-sex marriages that took place in other states.

So in order to provide benefits to same-sex couples in a manner which would be in compliance with the state constitution the city had to pass an ordinance to provide benefits to all persons in a sexual relationship for at least a year, no matter if they were married or simply living together.

/This ordinance has not passed, not until the second reading and another simple majority vote.

When I was with my ex I got her insurance coverage through Dell but yea there are limited thing the city can do but most of what they can do has to do with city employees oh and Tennessee has no state income tax so that's not a thing.

That was my question. Is the third proof a live demo at a city council meeting?

Good idea. I could "partner" with my sister. If I had an estate she'd get it anyway; nobody else was ever any good at putting up with me. As to whether I have sex with anybody, what business is it of anyone's? Assume I'm a 50 year old virgin, do mu various exes a favor.

Um, the "man in the house" rule was tossed by the SCOTUS in 1968.  Seriously, it's long gone.
