My ass just ushered in a wind very similar to that song.

I have an important question to ask...

Who is (well, was) taller, Ronnie James Dio or Klaus Meine?

Ate we talking about Udo Dirkschneider? /liked "the zoo" when I was 12.

Yeah, rammstein was pretty good subby

Their farewell tour was most excellent.

As a near living descendent of German Jews, I am still holding a grudge.

Wait, Scorps were metal? I always thought they were good ol' fashioned rock. Nothing wrong with them not being metal, just stop calling every band that played rock in the 80s-90s metal.

2013-11-12 11:19:50 PM
maybe the reason why the arab spring hasn't really worked out is because they don't have a good soundtrack. Some egyptian band needs to step up.

As opposed to Nightranger's "(you can still) rock in america", which just re-affirmed our awesomeness.

Okay, this is the second Udo reference I've seen on FARK in as many weeks. I didn't realize he was such a cult figure.

Anyway, I've met Udo and Klaus Meine is taller. By like a foot.

Yes, please.

I wasn't there the night they recorded Strangers in Chicago in 1979, because I was 11. But I did get to see the original line up in Chicago at The Vic in 1995 and it was farking fantastic.

I saw the Scorps a few times in the last few years, and damn if they couldn't still bring it.
Great rock show, and pretty awesome hearing 20,000 people whistling along to Winds Of Change.

For some reason, my first guess was Accept.

That's because for the mainstream, pop rock like U2 is "rock" and Scorpions sounds like farking Emperor and Bal Sagoth compared to U2.

Man, so many name droppings of some of my favorite straight out cheeeeese bands. I love silly 80 rock. Pure guitar and dumb lyrics.

I still say that World War III will be started by someone combining the whistling of Winds of Change with the pennywhistling of My Heart Will Go On into some hyper-engineered musical suckstorm.

I met Dio once. He was pretty damn short. I'd put him at 5'2-ish. Didn't have a tape measure with me though.

They weren't heavy metal, but I would definately put them int he metal category. Most of their radio songs were a bit more "fluffy", but compared to rock at the time they woudl be in the metal spectrum.

that sounds like it still angry. and that's all nice and fine when you are still overthrowing the repressive government. I've seen some of the rappers of the Arab Spring being talked about in NPR and such. But Scorpion understood that when your society has been torn apart by revolution, only a power ballad can bring them back together again.

their late-70's early 80's pushed into "heavy metal" territory, as much as many NWOBHM acts did, not as heavy as Judas Priest but absolutely fitting the genre.  "Blackout" and "Taken by force" come to mind.  They fell back to "hard rock"  shortly thereafter.  "Blackout" is one of my fav albums of all time.

Yeah, sorry. It was during the Electric Sun years too. It's difficult to explain what I saw. "A god playing a god's instrument" almost gets there.

Scorpions aren't heavy metal.  They're not even metal.  They're stadium rock.  Pretty much European Journey.

I tried out for a band a few months ago and I had to learn "Rock you like a Hurricane". I gained a lot of respect for Mathias Jabs because that solo is GD difficult. That guy can really play. If I keep on typing I will tell you all that it was a Scorpions tribute band that I was trying out for. I haven't played in a band for a while and I was itching to play loud and with a live band.I didn't get the gig, thankfully, because I realized that I didn't like the Scorpions all that much.

I love The Scorpions. But that article blew. They set it up with Lou Reed's impact on Vaclav Havel, and I kept expecting some kind of weenie along those lines. But the only weenie was comparing the fall of the soviet union with the fall of metal to grunge, leading to this line:

"Standing in line all day for Scorpions tickets wasn't too far removed from standing in line all day for a loaf of bread."

That is a RIDICULOUS thing to write. Pure garbage. In an article where the author lampoons the Scorpions for trying to grow a conscience, it's ironically amusing to see the dude show his own b-hole like this. But that's not a worthwhile payment for the time it took me to read this thing.

Not only is Accept still around, they recently released a new album called Stalingrad.  It's actually a pretty badass old-school heavy metal album.
