Good.  I hope it drops as low as "zero".

On Friday, I was seeing death tolls in excess of 10,000 just in one city. This morning, they said 1,000 for the whole country, but that the death toll was expected to climb. So where in the hell did they come up with 10,000 from? CNN just makes shiat up, don't they?

2013-11-12 03:24:43 PM
In one rare bit of good news, President Benigno Aquino III told CNN's Christiane Amanpour that the initial death projection of 10,000 was "too much," and that the final accounting would more likely be around 2,000 to 2,500.

Seriously.. How does a miscalucation that large happen? Let alone make it to the public first? Holy knee jerk reaction.

When pulling things out ones ass, the veracity of the claim is rarely important. Hence the politics tab.

My SIL's family is fine, but need food and water.  Their phone works, but they could only contact my SIL through Facebook.  Yeah, I didn't understand that either.  At least they could.

Well that just sucks. I always masturbate to natural disasters. The higher the death toll, the higher my climax. Bloated bodies floating in brackish water adds to the pleasure.

The cell antennas are working, but overloaded with people trying to call. So while the voice connections are being rejected because of the overload, data packets are still being accepted because there's no expectation of real-time transmission.

After the earthquake here in Japan, voice calls were all but impossible. But Skype chat and Twitter worked fine.

The size and promptness of the aid package is directly proportional to the initial casualty estimates. 10,000 is a large round scary number that got a lot of attention. I knew at the time it was too high. But I understood the motivation behind it.

They didn't do ANY calculating in the first place. They simply picked a number witb a sufficient number of zeros.

On 9/11 the only way I could communicate with people outside NYC was by Blackberry. Same principle, I guess.

Remember the coverage of Hurricane Katrina?  If you believed the early reports, tens of thousands were dead and the rest were engaging in an orgry of rape and looting.

It's likely very bad for the country but CNN's sensationalism has to be called into question.  Just trying to get attention?

1,000 was the number of bodies they actually found up to that point.  They knew there were thousands more, some of which will never be found.  So that's why there were two wildly different numbers.

I think there is a simple one word term to describe why it happens.  Ratings.

Every news source wants to be the first, THE FIRST, to report on what happened.  If they are right, GREAT!  If not, well, it wasn't as bad as they thought.  But at least they were the first to report it.

This is why on 9/11 there were, like 10 planes, nuclear devices, and almost 50,000 people dead when it was first reported.

It was a local f*cking police chief here. He should have never have been interviewed. CNN is going off of what the AP was told.

Let's just say they tend to exaggerate numbers here...a lot. I think the Presidents guess of 2-2.5k is too low, since there is alot of remote areas unaccounted for. But 10k? No way.

There is a shiat ton of natural gas below the south china sea just to the west of the Phils. and as long as they let us use their ports for our military, they are plenty strategic. We've been "advising" them re their Muslin insurgency on Mindanao and the Sulu islands for years.

Didn't they say the same thing when Katrina hit New Orleans? About how thousands were dead and there were riots and looting in the dome. Can't believe the press anymore, it's just like the Internet. Take initial reports with a grain of salt.
