The thief, pictured below, apparently used it to cart away a stolen holiday meal?

It's not like she had to go far to get to her car.

I guess stealing a shopping cart was more conspicuous than the wheelchair with light up green lights?

Sorry, Subby, but I have to rank "sending kids to jail for kickbacks" and "withholding key prosecutorial information to send an innocent man to jail for decades" above this on the Evil scale.

Stephen's mother, Barbara, said the family was leaving their Martin Luther King Drive home . This is always a problem.

There is an update: a local company (Invacare) is going to make two new wheelchairs for the kid, including one specialized for basketball, for free.

I have a friend who is a double leg amputee and has a similar story, at a Phillies game he got out of his wheelchair to sit in the seats with friends and when the game was over the chair was gone. People who steal a wheelchair are farked up and we can only hope there is a special hell for them.

The Christmas time tard with hard luck story. I hate to be a cynic, but this always ends with them getting a bunch of free shiat. It's almost like you can plan for it.

Yup, all of the nicer neighborhoods always have a Martin Luther King Street/drive/blvd. etc.

I've seen a few episodes of The First 48 where the murder site was MLK Boulevard.

Have we already forgot what Chris Rock said about MLK's in ANY city?

2013-11-12 02:19:23 PM
That kid was just going to grow up dependent on everybody else to carry his weight for him. He's 9 for crying out loud and is already incapable of pulling himself up by the bootstraps.  Now the MSM media is just going to push this sob story and the kid's going to get rewarded with free stuff for doing nothing. Typical. Not hard to guess who he's going to grow up to v0te for. Let's put down our tear-stained hankies and look for the real truth before demonizing the so-called wheelchair "thief". That's the actual victim of the story.

/did I do that right?
//threw up a little

Special place in hell waiting for these asshats

2013-11-12 02:31:25 PM
If we follow the logic from the stolen bicycle thread a week or so ago, it's clearly the kid's fault for having a halfway decent wheelchair.

2013-11-12 02:59:30 PM
What if.... what if a poverty stricken man couldn't pay for a wheelchair and was essentially forced to steal one so that his kid wouldn't have to suffer any longer with the homemade one made from cardboard and rusty train wheels?

There are two sides to this story!

/Or maybe this is all BS and evil person is evil

This60. It's stories like these that remind me of just how despicable we are as a species.

Well, at least TFA offered some perspective. Today sucks, but I don't have CP, nor did I get a wheelchair stolen.

The one in Cleveland borders the Cleveland Clinic, one of the finest hospitals in the nation, University Circle including Case Western Reserve, etc.... granted,... it probably goes through some crappy neighborhoods too.

Portland's MLK has a Burgerville. Damnit, now I am craving Walla Walla cheeseburgers.

Muncie's MLK is rundown and full of fail.

So we are supposed to act like people with special needs are equals, not handicapped but handy-capable, all while giving preferential treatment to them? Why should I feel bad if corky gets his chair stolen, what makes their plight a more worthy cause than anyone else? /ask me my thoughts on womens rights
