Too late, Obamacare has already imploded.

Out of curiosity, if this thing passes, are the insurance companies going to go back and revive the plans they already killed off? Somehow I doubt that.

At this point I doubt they want to kill Obamacare any more than they want to learn anything about Benghazi.

Not that we didn't already know this before now, but the Republican Party officially only cares about messaging. This is a terrible policy that would ultimately undermine the reconstructed health insurance market and allow all kinds of predatory and fraudulent behavior to run rampant. But hey, you get to keep your health insurance! Go us!

Don't use the EZ Pass! The chip they implant into your skull allows the NSA, CIA, FBI, IRS, BATF, EPA, CDC, and TSA to track your movements anywhere.

The cash-only lanes are a pain in the ass because they only take Ameros, but it's worth it.  I've heard the Ameros might be bugged too, though.

Likely some creepy old white billionaire. A real-life Montgomery Burns issuing orders and waving a campaign donation check with lots of zeroes in the air. The more senile they get, the more outrageous their demands for this and that.

Just waiting for the day when Mitch McConnell is forced to go live on C-SPAN and demand an end to the Picnic Apes, because that's what his backers are wanting.

As an old white man, I can tell you you'll be lucky to feel your toes tingle when you get up. The worst is when you get out of bed and your ankle locks up and you have to call in to work saying that you have to work from home because you busted up your ankle getting out of bed.

And don't get me started on trying to get it up.

It truly is a cynical, unproductive effort by the GOP to keep Obama's bullshiat "you can keep your plan" words rolling through a few more news cycles.

Unfortunately, Americans aren't real sophisticated when it comes to blatant political posturing.

Whenever I used to read about mad scientists and supervillains in comic books or James Bond movies coming up with insane and obviously non-workable plans, I used to think that the writers were just being lazy.  Now, looking at everything the GOP has done to try and scuttle the OCA, I think those writers might have been more on the money than I realized.  I guess when you obsessively hate something, everything else, even reality, falls away, and you'd rather live in a world where all roads lead to your imaginary triumph rather than deal with the world as it really is.

Outraged at GOP subterfuge? Absolutely!

I qualify as a "rich old white guy"...I guess, as I have a defined benefit retirement plan for life, with comprehensive medical care thrown in for $500 per year. The idea that the GOP "represents" my wishes to cut me off from that care is the height of hubris and delusional self-deception. Good luck with that you clowns. The last Republican I voted for was Bush 41, and at the rate you're going he will be the last one.

I've only met a woman that was upset she was losing her Oregon Health Plan (state insurance), because she got a better job and was making too much money, and would have to buy it on the exchange.

But, she was really happy to be making more money.

I don't know if I even care anymore what the GOP does. I haven't voted for a republican at any level of government since 2008 and since at least 2010 I haven't felt like I could vote for a republican even if I supported their personal platform. Even if I like the candidate, I feel as though I can't support them because they're part of the larger party of complete lunatics and I don't want to risk giving additional support to the body as a whole because they're so destructive.

Thanks to the teabaggers the "republican" brand is a scarlet letter that drives remotely sensible people away from the party. They've already gone so far over the cliff that I don't know if it even matters at this point if they drive even farther or if they could turn around and come back to sanity even if they wanted to.

I wish they'd just farking die already or schism between traditional fiscal conservatives and the idiot teabaggers and fundies. It would be kind of nice if there were some intelligent counterbalance to the dems once the republicans finally finish destroying themselves and no longer have any power at all.

It's not like the conservatives have anything else to biatch about.  Stories about individuals losing their coverage are usually coming up as wildly exaggerated or lies. Also ignoring that no law can ever be 100% perfect for everyone, some will, in fact, have it worse under the ACA, but as a whole, the nation is better off, and by a significant margin. Numbers of signups must not include the Medicaid expansion enrollment, or it doesn't fit the narrative, even though ACA was primarily to get healthcare to the poor, exactly those who qualified for the Medicaid expansion. Any chance at attacking Obama must be taken, including what food he ate once. Even if that attack requires ridiculous lying, willful ignorance, willful misrepresentation of reality, loaded questions, the works. Asking for a reasonable fix or plan is obviously too much to ask.  If the republicans put even a tenth of the effort into making a good faith effort at making the ACA work as they do at trying to destroy it, we'd be in amazing shape.

Really...how so? Not by cutting back on my medical care just as I enter the phase of life where I am likeliest to need it. Nor when they threaten Social Security for folks as little as 5 years younger than me. Nor when they gut other programs for the poor, infirm and very young and old.

I think the problem is you are taking their plans at face value. They don't want to end Obamacare they just want to look like they are fighting Obamacare with everything they've got. That's what gets them votes. That's what gets them airtime on Fox and all the Fox imitators.

If they did manage to kill Obamacare they would then have to find some other chimera to fight. But the plan they have -- for them -- is working. It is appalling how many elections Republicans win or are going to win.

2013-11-12 10:50:51 AM
Obama is pretty good at playing rope-a-dope.  I wonder if he is low balling the number of people who signed up because he is expecting the GOP to say, "HEY ONLY SIX PEOPLE SIGNED UP!!!".  By holding back Obama sets a boobie trap where he can come back and say, "2.7 million people would lose insurance if ACA is repealed.  Is this what America wants?"

2013-11-12 10:51:33 AM
What a totally craptastic article.  It links to a PDF of the ACA but fails to provide a link the the bill the article is about.   It also fails to explain exactly what is in the bill or how it is bad.

It might as well have said 'republicans are bad so be afraid.'

Mine stayed the same, but my employer added a new, lower-cost plan. I don't feel like analyzing it to figure out what they cut to get it lower, but my experience is quite a bit different than the experiences people seem to spend a lot of time telling me I'll have.

They also added a "preventative care only" plan with no emergency coverage. That seems crazy to me. How is that even insurance? It's just paying for your doctor's visits in installments. They say it meets the ACA requirements, though.
