Well, yeah, more teams, better tourney.

One reason it's not:

1) It's not.

College Sports: For when your current life has no meaning, and you need something from your past to grab on to.

I don't really watch much basketball, but the one facet of college that I find highly annoying is how the last minute of the game is a clusterfark that usually ends up running up to 30 minutes. Ridiculous. Get rid of the fouls and let the damn game clock run at the same rate it does during the other 95% of the game.

2013-11-12 09:59:41 AM
1. White players

2013-11-12 09:59:54 AM
Because they don't play 80 games and mail it in for 65 of them.

The NBA is like hearing Pink Floyd on classic rock radio. Do I like Pink Floyd? Absolutely. Do I need to hear them every fourth song? Absolutely not.

Put simply, the NBA is way oversaturated. Almost half the league makes the playoffs, and the season is about 20 games longer than necessary. Start the season around Christmas & end it around Father's Day and l'll pay attention more.

Besides, march madness is far and away the best playoff format in American sports & second only to the superb owl in terms of mass participation.

Sure it does.  I like watching the top athletes in a sport compete.  I don't like watching poor play.

Sure the tourney can be exciting at times, but as a whole, college basketball sucks.

Everything else about the NBA is a soulless husk of money-grabbing. The NCAA everything else (arena, hype, fans, mood) is WAY WAY WAY better.

NBA sucks though.

lol, the NCAA is the definitions of a soulless money-grubbing husk.  The schools don't even have to share the money.

Meh. I don't think I've ever watched a full BBall game at any level. Maybe one or two NBA games with friends at the bar, but when you're drinking at a bar, you're not really paying full attention. Anyway, back when ESPN used to have rights to broadcast NHL games, I'd regularly flip over when the NHL game was supposed to start only to have to sit through 30 minutes of some lame college basketball game while they farked around to drag out the last minute.

Foul. free throw. free throw. timeout, play .5 seconds. foul. free throw. timeout. foul. freethrow. play 1.5 seconds. foul. TV timeout....

ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

There's a slight contradiction in your argument, though each of those arguments standing alone have validity.  64 teams, even out of 350-something, is still a large number.  The big advantage there is that they're single elimination matchups - versus 16 teams each in best of seven series.
My take is that while the players in the NBA are clearly better, they just don't seem to take coaching very well.  The college game overall has a feeling that each player top to bottom is given a role and participates.  That said, I still hate college basketball because the participants suck.
/was lucky enough to watch the Celtics the past few years, one of the few NBA teams that did display discipline to a common goal.

2013-11-12 10:18:21 AM
I live in North Carolina. We have AT LEAST two of the best college teams and one of the very worst NBA teams.Everybody watches the Duke/Carolina games and almost nobody follows the NBA playoffs.

2013-11-12 10:18:27 AM
They are both highly-polished turds.

2013-11-12 10:20:19 AM
I grew up on College Basketball and have yet to live remotely close to an NBA team of consequence. The NCAA tournament is the greatest event in sports, IMO, and the emotion of both teh fans and the players towards the results of games is equally great. That said, the strategy, athleticism, and skill on display in the NBA is better than anything in the NCAA. As with CFB, CBB suffers from too many games between teams of uneven talent, and truly competitive matches are few and far between. If I have to watch a single random regular season game, I'd rather watch the NBA, but if you said I could only watch the NBA playoffs or the NCAA playoffs, I'd choose NCAA every time.

2013-11-12 10:20:55 AM
College basketball is horrible. Like watching chickens running around with their heads cut off.

2013-11-12 10:23:16 AM
Maybe the TV ratings would serve as a guide on which is better to watch as a fan.

2013-11-12 10:27:14 AM
There's really only one reason for me: March Madness.
I'm not even a big basketball fan but I love that damn tournament and the office pools :)

The pro game is definity better but higher level of play doesn't mean it's always fun to watch.

2013-11-12 10:34:02 AM
Yes you'll never see emotion like Adam Morrison showed in the NBA...

..oh wait. Well at least you'll never have to see Adam Morrison in the NBA again.

I find the game itself to be more entertaining, but basketball already was my least favorite of the big 4 sports.

My biggest problem with college ball is the fans that destroy every single sports bar once the games start. I can't ever get a nice quiet bloody on a Saturday afternoon without these idiots swarming to my favorite spots and taking up every seat before vomiting all over the bathroom after drinking 20 miller lite stadium cups.

College is always better than the Pros.

The kids care.

Sounds like you need to find a more appropriate bar, mate.

LemSkroob: College Sports: For when your current life has no meaning, and you need something from your past to grab on to.

Why is it such an East Coast thing to hate college sports? I get it you went to some SUNY school that didn't have a sports environment. Seriously, you go to the south, great lakes or general midwest and it is college first for the majority - West seems to lean college too - it is just New England and the boarding states that are such pro first fans (and they tend to be hyper vocal when they are in another region of the country that prefers college sports

This isn't even true.

Most college basketball teams involve a single talented player who dribbles the ball up top trying to get free for a 3 or to the rim.  The rest of the team is just in his way.

2013-11-12 11:02:35 AM
Didn't read the list, but my main point: passing.

In college, it's more than a long pass, dribble through a double team and go for the dunk.

2013-11-12 11:06:04 AM
The NBA hasn't been interesting since Rodman left. A little bit of defense would be nice once in awhile.

/Kentucky basketball is better

2013-11-12 11:07:01 AM
I like college basketball because I like seeing lots of missed shots. Eventually it comes down to a last second shot in triple overtime and some kid finally sinks one. It is very inspiring.

2013-11-12 11:12:27 AM
The two games are so different, you might as well compare high school basketball to big time div-1 basketball. The talent and skill levels are miles apart. The best players on most college teams wont sniff the bench in the NBA. The intensity of March Madness is a thing of beauty and it is the best time of year to be a sports fan, but the NBA playoffs are extremely fun too. I guess I just prefer to watch the best athletes in the world play the game.

2013-11-12 11:13:01 AM
The NBA could and should be much more entertaining, but instead, every decision made is made simply for money.

Shorten the season
Streamline and speed up the playoffs
Cut down the TV timeouts and other commercial break cash grabs
White people

The # 1 one TV show is constantly a show about aspiring pop singers.

I am not saying you can;t enjoy what you enjoy, I am saying that if America watches your show in droves that doesn't make it "better" to watch quality wise.

2013-11-12 11:14:03 AM
I love watching a bunch of 6'3" kids passing the ball back and forth, up and down the 3 point arc until the shot clock winds down to zero and  the last person touching the ball has to heave up a desperation brick.   I can tell myself that because it involved lots of pointless and inefficient passing I watched more pure and noble form of the game and pat myself on the back with self satisfaction.

Oh I certainly have, it's just a pain in the ass that it narrows down the options so much. You also inevitably have the groups of postgame bros that think it would be funny to go be obnoxious in a  "dive" bar after they're done emptying their sports bars of shiatty beer. It's an all around annoying experience if you live in any neighborhood that has an abundance of bars, even if they aren't all sports bars.

And it beats out the other show about aspiring pop singers because it's better.

/I will concede that both the NBA and NCAA are pretty lame.

This statement doesn't make sense. The NBA Playoffs feel like they run as long as they season itself. It's a bit of a joke.

Exactly. A good analogy would be: Usain Bolt is the fastest man on Earth. Therefore let's pay a ton of money to watch him run a marathon.

The NBA could do a few things to make it better.  I would restrict the coaches to 1 timeout in the final 2 minutes of the game.

I think they could change the fouling rules in the last couple minutes.  I don't want to take the strategy completely out of the game, but it needs to be changed to lessen how often it's employed.

I was thinking of the team can decide between 2 shots or 14 second run-off and the ball on the side.

2013-11-12 11:31:16 AM
I love March Madness because I love people react like it's the only exhibition in all of sports where a team with an expected low probability of winning occasionally, but not often, defeats the favorite.

NBA offense:

A: Pick-and-roll

There is no B, C, or D.
