who was diagnosed with breast cancer by the on-air mammogram

Did anyone else read that and then look at the  img1.fark.net tag and think that's a little much? I mean, it's good that they found it, but I don't know if I would say img1.fark.net.

Xeni Jardin did it first.

Well, had she not done it for that on-air piece, she might have not done it until it was too late. (As it is, I hope that it isn't.)  She said she wouldn't have. I'd say that a chance to live is more spiffy than painful cancer death.

The woman to her right is from my hometown. We think that having a living Robin Roberts is pretty damned spiffy.

Ladies, please get your mammograms. Sure, it's not great getting your boobs squished, but it's worth it. We want you around for a long, long time.

This story is definitely at least "spiffy" although also "scary." What a powerful demonstration of the need for and efficacy of screening. Thank goodness she was compelled to go in by her cancer-stricken colleague.

Spiffy is pretty much one happy step above "meh." What would you have tagged it? Boobies?

Agreed. This is a story that is both spiffy and scary. It is scary that Amy Robach has breast cancer and plans to undergo a double mastectomy, but it is spiffy that it was caught early because Robach's producer urged her to get her first mammogram on the air and the mammogram caught the cancer so it can be treated before it gets worse. Hopefully more women will go get mammograms as a result of this story. There are some cynical people who think Robach knew of the cancer before she got the mammogram, but I don't think that is likely.

I think not dying from a treatable disease because you caught it early is pretty spiffy.

Shame about the boobies but them's the breaks.

Looking at this picture should save lives. Every woman looking at it and feeling inferior should keep touching their breasts, hoping they become this. Every man should try to feel up women hoping to find defects in such perfection, or total nirvana.

I find this costume more offensive than the Boston marathon chick, the twin tower chicks, and the Mr. T teacher combined.

The cynical side of me thinks that this is all a bid for ratings plus an extra kick to the "get scanned" message.

Aren't mammograms criticized for having too many false positives? And that early diagnosis does not really improve your odds of surviving?

Hmmm... that is a thought for Breast Cancer Awareness month next year. All Fark submissions are tagged as "Boobies" for the whole month. Make it happen Drew..
