Well you gotta admit, not other actor portrays Jason Statham better then Jason Statham.

Jason Statham in "Tough British guy beats up bad guys and probably takes his shirt off at some point, Part IV"

Seriously though, I like his movies even though they're all the same thing.

Layer Cake was one of the most brilliant movies of the genre I've ever seen.

/Up there with Ronin, IMHO.

I mostly only watch his movies waiting to see him shirtless.  I wouldn't mind seeing more of him, so long as it happens in the next few years because you can look at him and see he's gonna degrade pretty quickly once old age fully sets in.

When I go see a Statham movie I expect Statham and nothing but Statham.

Statham and Chasman will test the idea that a protagonist can play the same character in different movies

That idea needs testing?

This so much.  They are good, mindless entertainment.  He knows it.  You know it, and he delivers.

I don't know about that; I think he has at least 10 good years left in him.

Check out Redemption/Hummingbird.  It's still an action movie, but the whole movie is really carried by Statham and the weight his character carries.

Really, I'll watch anything he does, and the fact that most of them show up on Netflix quickly makes them convenient popcorn fair.

I love the Crank movies for this very reason.

He can't play that character because in Layer Cake, Craig was never the muscle or really came off as the tough guy. One look at Statham tells you he's not a pushover.

Besides, I'd rather see a Crank 3 with him and more of Amy Smart.

Won't be worth seeing if Daniel Craig doesn't take the role up again. Statham's movies are fun, but that character just isn't him.

Whatever it is about the man, I can easily watch his movies without finding the scenarios ridiculous or contrived.  They're not masterpieces, but they're entertaining, which is better than I can say about a lot of movies these days.

I'm waiting for him to star in a Kickpuncher movie.

Great bit of dialogue from Layer cake:

"But why did you keep the gun?"
"It sounds silly now, but it was me favourite"
"I hope you don't tell the other guns you've got favourites"

That movie got Craig the Bond role, apparently. It also had a bunch of great British "that guy" actors like Colm Meaney and Dexter Fletcher in it, which I always like.

As far as Statham playing the character, he didn't do too bad with the Parker character from the Richard Stark/Donald Westlake series. I'd put him below Lee Marvin but above Mel Gibson in that role (and that was one of Gibson's better performances, actually) so I think he has the chops to pull it off. The trouble is wondering if he'll actually WANT to pull it off - I don't think he'll actually play it suavely cold-blooded, I think, like subby said, it'll just be Statham playing Statham.

/The Bank Job is still one of my faves
//Crank is an allegory for the decline of WASP power in the face of Hispanic immigration and the outsourcing of manufacturing to Asia
///Killer Elite was supposedly based on a true story, but it sounds a lot like that Rogue Warrior Marcinko guy
