stoli n coke: So, people are mad that two actresses are pretending to be lesbians for a movie?

Know how I know you didn't RTFA?  Way to get trolled by subby, yo.  Some people are mad, apparently, but the lesbians interviewed just went "meh".  I'm a straight guy but -- while I haven't seen this particular movie -- I can relate to that reaction.  Hot women are one of the most important reasons for the existence of life itself, but when they're going through the motions of an act that's obviously not exciting for them, I'm a bit too empathic to not notice.

ambercat: I thought it was understood that movies/porn do not accurately portray romance/sex.

They don't accurately portray violence or pretty much anything else, either.  When that guy's head exploded in Videodrome -- and you may be want to be sitting down for this -- it wasn't a real head and that guy didn't really die.  Oh, and the ESP in the movie wasn't real either.  But imagine if someone filmed an action movie where the combatants looked bored, vaguely pointed the prop guns in each others' general direction instead of at least pretending to aim and delivered every line in flat monotone.  That's kind of the level of most staged sex in movies and porn.  Suspension of disbelief is the lesson for today.  When I see two girls making out I want to get excited, but when the acting is awful to the point that they seem to be getting paid by the hour, the bad quality and lack of any excitement to empathize with becomes destructively distracting.

Sgt Otter: ramblinwreck: So now they know how unappealing straight sex scenes are in movies?  farking awful, the whole lot.

The sex scenes in "The Room" are incredibly bad.

eschatus: Wow.the comments on TFA were something else.

Do tell. I don't feel like "temporarily allow all scripts on this page" several times just to read anonymous Internet comments. I just showered in raw sewage, I have standards

I didn't bother reading the article but I did hear an brief interview with the author of the graphic novel who's primary (and as far as I can tell only) biatch was that the movie wasn't directed by a lesbian.  And that there is no way a non-lesbian could ever make a good movie.  And during the interview admitted she hadn't seen a single scene.

In which I say - go fark yourself.

/bitter lesbians annoy me more than old bitter gay men

2chris2: Lesbians are not upset about it.  What the article is mentioning is that someone showed a group of lesbians just the sex scenes from the movie and asked for their reactions.  If you cut out just the sex scenes from any movie and showed them to any group of people, they'd react poorly.

Assuming those people weren't men?

Because, frankly, there are entire sites devoted to just showing the sex scenes from movies:  http://www.mrskin.com/

Man, they are going to be really pissed when they find out the guys in Apollo 13 weren't really astronauts.

Sgt Otter: Sex in movies is highly stylized and unrealistic.  I think the Lumiere Brothers could have told you that.

The obsession with hetero butt sex and doggy style is 10% forbidden fruit and 90% because it is a way to film a chick getting railed and being able to see her more than the guy doing her.

"I thought it was hot at the beginning, and then it got ridiculous when they kept switching sex positions every ten seconds," observes one viewer. "It started to feel like an infomercial for a kitchen product, where they try and showcase all the things it can do. 'It can chop, it can slice, it can dice, it can puree, it can eat out your asshole.' "

I'd pay $19.95 plus shipping and handling for one of those
