Saw the gif, made me queasy.

Well, that was disgusting.

Martonio: .....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand there goes my fantasy hockey season!

You too, huh?

As a personal anecdote, the injury that ended my Army career was a spiral compound fracture of the tibia starting at about 2 inches above my right ankle - almost exactly the same place in which Stamkos just got hit.  They had put three rods running the length of my tibia around the bone.  Once they determined that I wouldn't lose the foot entirely, the recovery period they gave me was 6-8 months (and in my case, because the tib fracture spiraled all the way up to the patellar tendon, that I'd never run again without severe pain, which has proven more or less accurate).

So with that as a guide to how I'm seeing this go down...yeah.  Barring extreme good luck, Stamkos is gone for the season.  And he's going to hurt to start next year, due to the amount of muscle mass he'll lose from being sedentary for 6 weeks, and then having to be on crutches for the next month after that.

Things with bones aren't supposed to bend that way.

One year physical,
one year mental recovery.

I am probably glad the image/video (whatever) is blocked at work.

That's awful, wish him the best as far as recovery however long that ends up being.

The Lightning have confirmed the broken tibia reports. This sucks in more ways than I can count.

And there goes the promising season.

Well fark. Even though I posted it as a link, complete with tags, FARK tried to thumbnail it.

That probably rules him out for Sochi too.

God freaking dammit.

Yeah, similar injuries in the past have taken anywhere from 3-6 months to heal. Canada's 1st game in Sochi is in 95 days, from something I saw. And with rosters having to be named by the end of this year, I think we can just about declare him out for the Olympics.

It's not pretty, but it's over quick and his leg doesn't remain bent.

Unlike that poor bastard whose foot did a 180....

Another note: Tampa is undefeated against West teams (6-0-0). Their next 6 games are @Montreal, vs Anaheim, @Phoenix, @Los Angeles, @San Jose and @Anaheim. Just 4 out of 6 against teams currently in the top 5 for the whole league.

/Tampa is currently 6th best in the NHL

WITH GOD AS MY WITNESS, THAT LEG IS BROKEN IN HALF!

I'll repost what I said earlier

He won't be tapdancing anytime soon.

Stamkos has to be one of the most universally-liked current NHL players, and his amazing season being cut short like this is just tragic.

Sad frown here.

2013-11-11 06:50:42 PM
Crosby and Stamkos have pretty been tied or traded places as far as most points in the league for the last 3 or 4 years... and Crosby has gotten injured every previous time.

It's about time Stamkos gets an injury and evens things out a bit.

2013-11-11 06:58:35 PM
It's really kinda surprising that doesn't happen more often with how many people slide into posts.

Yes. Crosby is the greatest ever, and we need some injuries to some other players to prove it.

I always wondered how many injuries the movable nets prevented compared to the old ones that pretty much took a forklift to remove off the pegs.  My guess is quite a few.   One guy was going to the net hard, one was back checking hard, shiat happens. Very tough break for the lightning.  Team Canada can reload a little easier than the they can.

Yeah, the immovable nets caused a lot of injuries. These are far better, though occasionally shiat does happen. For a while, they had a magnet system that came off even easier, preventing more injuries, but nets came off left and right, and it screwed up the flow of play. The current system stays on pretty dang well, but comes off easily enough to prevent most injuries.

Being sarcastic. I actually posted that before watching the video. I am very much down on the way the NFL and NHL handle their discipline, especially the NFL.

Stamkos is still on Team Canada roster, from reports just a couple of hours ago..

Bolts fan and was watching game when happened....just sucks.  Fortunately he is young and should heal eventually...just how long it will take not sure

I'm convinced that every sports team in the state of Florida other than Florida State football is under a curse. Actually, I think some wires got crossed trying to curse the Seminoles for their mascot running around in red face.

2013-11-12 02:49:40 AM
Seems awfully unlucky to have already dislodged the net with the other foot and still somehow catch the post hard enough to break his leg.

Did Jack Edwards yell at him to get up?

I completely agree, there's going to be at least one suspension to come out of this.

/Stamkos has got to be in traction for at least a little while with something like that.....

2013-11-12 08:28:58 AM
With Stamkos slated to play RW with Canada, this injury gives a guy like Giroux a little more opportunity to get his game back to where it needs to be. Also, pushes Stamkos' line mate St. Louis up the depth chart.

Watched this happen live and was saddened to see such a great player go down with such a horrible looking injury. I say this and I'm a Bruins fan.

I can do that one better.  My first round pick was Stamkos and my second was Craig Anderson.

Its going to be a LONG season...
