As a long time Colts fan, seeing Peyton not get up was kinda freaky, even though he doesn't QB my favorite team anymore, good to see he should be okay.

Well the narrative is set now should the chiefs upset the colts "Peyton was Hurt." If the broncos win "He's a tough guy won't be bothered by an injury."

Was funny watching Manning whine about the hit...apparently in his NFL, defenders are supposed to put on sterile gloves and only approach the QB after submitting a written warning and giving 30-seconds advance notice.

Chiefs win: Ha!  You only won because Peyton's neck was practically broken.

Yeah and the texans have lost cushing for the second year in a row, but the broncos in the late 90s? Were the cut block kings.

Besides Peyton deserves all the low hits for his dumb papa johns commercials.

He wasn't whining about the hit, he was arguing to the ref that he was the one who called a timeout so he could stay in the game. There was even a moment where you could clearly hear him say "I called the timeout!"

Pretty sure it was 'they called time out!' as in the charges using their last TO with 1:43 or so left in the game.

And as to SubBass49, just heard on the radio that the Broncos already submitted it to the NFL as a low hit.

Eh, if there's any doubt, it will be called regardless.  Michael Bennett of Seattle grabbed Ryan around the knees, slid down and pulled him down by his shoes, and still got the call.  The poor guy was actually working to sack the QB without actually putting his hands on him and still got busted.

I saw that and it was such a BS call.  At this point, the NFL should just make the QB a 2-handed touch target because that's where it's going.

You could change it to an "in the grasp" situation since the framework for that is already in place. But you shouldn't.

Naw, he was saying HE called the timeout so he could stay in the game and not have to sub out. At least thats what I heard. If the Chargers had called it I think he would have had to still sub out? Not sure on that though.

Well it was a late hit so.....

If you consider a "late hit" to be one where the defensive guy being blocked down makes contact as the QB's arm finishes it's follow-through on the pass, then sure, but in my totally not-expert estimation that's under a full second from the ball leaving the QB's hand.  Far from a "late" hit if you ask me.

/Even see Broncos fans on news comments saying it wasn't a late hit or a dirty hit.

Should be a good game.. So far I have been right on what happens with the Broncos this season (yea, big enough sports geek to call into the location stations) and have picked the broncos going 14-2, Colts for the first loss, Chiefs in KC for the second. Since you guys have plenty of experience up here, don't think the altitude will make a big difference so it should be fun to see what happens.

/Of course never expected what happened to Fox.. That one hurts, a lot.

I stand corrected, just watched the replay on nfl.com. Really sounded like he said they at first, think it was because they just hit a first down, 1:43 left on the clock and the Charges with only 1 TO. If the charges had used a TO, that was it. Victory formation for the next 3 downs. 40/40/40=2 minutes so the game would have been over.

I'd pay real, good money to be there to watch Peyton die.

2013-11-11 10:58:01 PM
Here's the thing about the upcoming game: both teams have not been tested much this season. KC doesn't have a win against a team with a current winning record and the Broncos lost to the Colts, which is the only team they have played with a current winning record. So there has been a lot of feasting on subpar teams, by both KC and Denver. I think the Patriots will be a tougher test than the Chiefs, tbh.

As a KC fan, I'm glad Peyton will be starting. If he wasn't, we'd never hear the end of it from the " weak schedule" chanting haters.

This is almost the perfect matchup.  The Chiefs D is almost perfectly built to attack the Broncos offense, and vice versa.

Manning is easily one of the greatest of all time and he's showing it this year, but the wear and tear of his career is starting to catch up to him.  He has a patchwork o-line that's had trouble protecting him (especially from his blind side) and he becomes very average when chased out of the pocket.  The Broncos have also had issues this year with aggressive man coverage, which is what the Chiefs can excel at.  The Chiefs front four hasn't brought quite as much pressure the last few weeks, but when they're on, they're brutal.  With replacement center and left tackle, the Chiefs line plus the occasional pressure from the LB's could wreck havoc.  The biggest weakness on defense is that the Chiefs have given up a lot of yards, especially on the ground.  If Manning has time in the pocket, he'll be able to pick the Chiefs apart.  Where the Chiefs excel is in the red zone, where they become serial killers who lure you in and strangle you.  Want a bizarre stat?  11 times this season, the opponent has taken a snap at the Chiefs 1 yard line, and in those 11 snaps, the Chiefs have outscored the opponent 7-0.

The other end is where it gets tricky.  The Broncos D hasn't been great, but Vonn Miller is starting to show some life.  Chan Bailey really doesn't have it anymore, but Alex Smith really isn't that accurate on deep passes anyway.  I think the Broncos pass defense stats are somewhat misleading as teams are often playing from behind and thus forced to pass.  The nice thing about Alex Smith is that even though he rarely wows you, he also very rarely makes mistakes.  The Chiefs offense is capable of sustained drives, but they aren't built for a shootout which is the biggest cause for concern.  TE Anthony Fassano is back which gives Smith another receiving option, which will hopefully take some pressure off of Jamaal Charles.

I don't know anything about the Broncos special teams, but Chiefs punter Dustin Colquit is an MVP.  The consistency with which he drops punts inside the 10 is amazing.  If he has a good game, Manning could be facing long fields all day long which plays into the strengths of the Chiefs D.

My guess is that if it becomes a shootout, Broncos win.  If it becomes a defensive struggle, Chiefs win.  Either way, I expect it to be a great game.
