(New Musical Express)   Agnetha Faltskog says ABBA may reunite for their 40th anniversary, but fans are cautiously optimistic as they have learned to act cynical, not gullible as if they were bjorn yesterday   (nme.com) divider line 32

Interesting, since they already said no to a previous billion dollar offer.

I'd always heard that age was a major factor in their reluctance to play any more...they don't look like they used to would rather not have to deal with the obvious public reaction to their appearance currently.

Kinda like Betty Page, she was eventually tracked down but refused to appear on camera saying she didn't want to disappoint the fans because of her age.

Scooped in the boobies.

I can't think of another reference.  Guess I'll just have to admit I'm facing my Waterloo in pun threads.

Well there's your problem right there. The parents should be in the same country as their children.

Honestly, she is an attractive older woman. But I agree that they should stay split. Let memories be memories, there is no need for a trip down nostalgia lane.

Strange how 40 years can make a person look older.

Who'd have guessed?

No, the problem for a long time was that Frida had become a recluse and was likely suffering from agoraphobia. She wouldn't even think about playing a live show, much less touring. Bjorn and Benny have always been keen to tour, especially with the size of some of the offers that have been made. But the group is four equal partners, so if one of them says no, it's not happening.

I had actually only heard this in relation to the women...and only since the turn of the century.  I've seen Benny and Bjorn make appearances over the years...I saw a clip of them at one awards ceremony where they sang a couple lines of Fernando.

One major factor in their reluctance to tour was their *enormous* wealth.  Back when they were active they pretty much shunned the US, they were so rich they weren't that interested in coming here.  Of course, their eventual emergence in the US only led to them getting even richer.  Seems as if I saw somewhere that they were unreal huge in Australia, they went there for a tour and so many people showed up at the airport it was like Woodstock.

Wikipedia kinda disputes this...not to argue (I had actually never heard much about them personally).

Lyngstad clearly enjoyed the spotlight more than the other three members of ABBA. She truly liked to tour and to meet audience members one-on-one.  She took an active part in co-designing the famed ABBA costumes for their tours and TV performances.  Since the members of ABBA went their separate ways, Frida has been the only one who openly regrets there has never been a reunion to date.

Maybe I have her confused with Agathe; one of them hadn't given an interview for over twenty years and only just recently came out of seclusion.  She'd been living on a private island outside of Stockholm and had basically cut off contact with the rest of the band.

Yeah, that was dear sweet Agnetha.
I would pay good money to see "Why Did It Have to Be Me" live. Frida is MAH GURL!

Ol Fart: I hope they do tour. Love ABBA... but if they dig the Spandex out of their closets, I swear I will lose my lunch....

I doubt that they will tour. My guess is that it will be a one-off performance.

The members of ABBA are some of the least money grabbing people in pop. When they got hugely successful, they stayed in Sweden, despite it having am upper tax rate like 95%. Benny is doing his folk music and isn't too interested in pop. And ABBA donated the publishing rights to Chiquitita to UNICEF. So, UNICEF still get half the royalties of each sale of that record.

They don't care, they've got a ton of money. If they want to tour, they will, but they've been offered insane amounts of money to do so and refused. If they get together it will be because they want to get back together.

I remember reading an article years ago where it was mentioned that their business manager loaded a ton of their profits into North Sea oil back in the late 70's which multiplied their wealth exponentially. Not sure how true it is, but if so, that would certainly explain why they can ignore the offers they do.
