No. It isn't.

Would it kill us to replace just a fraction of that violence on TV with titties?

Based on the commercials I see for NCIS, the gun violence is so comically bad and fake I don't think there is anything to worry about.

Really. Where is the television of tits and wine?

That's less than I would have expected. A lot less actually.

edmo: So it's like real life?

Actually, just the opposite:

Ferguson said the report offers no data that connects an increase in movie violence to an increase in real-world violence. Furthermore, while violence in movies has been growing, youth and gun violence in the United States has been declining. He believes the study distracts people from more probable causes of gun violence like poverty, educational disparities and mental health.

Violence, including gun violence, HAS been on the decline for a while now. It's easy to make that mistake though, since our 24/7 news channels tend to exaggerate the prevalence of violence by hyping up each incident quite a bit. So while statistically speaking violence is down each anecdote is thrust in to our attention more.

That said, America is still pretty violent in general compared to other first world nations, and that likely has a lot to do with our massive income disparity and high rate of poverty.

And yet cartoon dogs are no longer allowed to shoot themselves in the head saying "now I've seen everything" citing some improbable occurance.

No, no it sure wouldn't. Our over-religious society is way too terrified of perfectly normal naked human bodies and sex though.

As long as we can keep seeing racism where it doesn't exist we're good, because there are absolutely no consequences for crying wolf over and over.

I have a beef with that.

I don't want normal naked bodies on the telly, I want exceptional naked bodies!

I'd be fine with that too. I think we can agree: More naked on TV!

It's amazing that somehow, magically, kids in Europe see a titty now and then and they DON'T go feral and start eating each others' faces off. It's almost as if there's nothing wrong with the human body, that every human being on the planet has one, and that puritanical religious mumbo-jumbo shouldn't be allowed to dictate what is acceptable or not in a society.

Actually, continental Europeans are way more likely to grab a woman's ass or tit on the subway than Americans are. I'm not saying that's because of their more relaxed attitude toward nudity, but it's true.

I have a sneaking suspicion that we are just as racist and divisive that we ever were; we just do a better job of hiding it. But, gun violence has gone down; so, maybe there's hope for us yet.

The US also has a larger percentage of it's population in the 20-35 year old male demographic (the one that's by far more likely to commit violent crime) than any other Western nation.

You know why you never see "The Little Rascals" on TV or DVD anymore?

You can't find it anywhere.  The director bought up all the rights and is sitting on them, because they are so farking racist.

The irony is that those commericals are for companies owned by white people trying to sell worthless shiat to black people!

Spoken like someone who thinks TV today isn't pretty much just as racist. It may be different, but it's still very, very bad. A few tokens is not my idea of "not racist".

Oh Christ no. Even though basic cable has no restrictions, we'll never see boobs in the near future on it. Hannibal, which is on NBC, an FCC regulated channel, has shiat in it that would make the guy who made Hostel puke. But no boobies, ever, even on (basic) cable.

The first boobs I ever saw, three years old in Airplane!, a PG movie. They'd never get away with that now. But PG-13 movies like Taken are much more violent than a lot of R rated 1980s movies. It's a mad house, I say.

I'll add that there is less excuse today, and that the writers are sanctimonious about being more progressive, yet putting minorities in even more demeaning roles.

Or, perhaps, community standards are flexible and change over the years due to a variety of societal reasons.

We used to have people on TV in black face.  Little Rascals used the phrase porch monkey for gods sake, the black kid loved watermellon, talked like a stereotypical  negro servant, and literally danced off the screen.

Ok, boobs in PG-13 movies not okay, a Colombian necktie on prime time broadcast TV perfectly fine. Not sure if this is a positive move in societal norms.

Who doesn't like watermelon and dancing?

The dutch wear black face all the time.

Check out how interracial relationships play out on TV 90% white man/east Asian woman. And it,s always a source of drama.

I'm still not getting how TV is just as racist today. Granted, I don't watch a lot of TV and the shows I did watch are mostly canceled now but I watch Psych. The black guy is the reasonable, sensible one and the white gu is the idiot. If the roles were reversed, they'd call it a mistral show. Lawrence Fishbourne is the boss on Hannibal. The cop in Person of Interest is a capable black woman. Nobody farks with Mischone in The Walking Dead. Castle has a black female medical examiner. I dunno, not seeing the racism.

RACIST!

Seriously though, screaming racism by the left is becoming so common that it's losing it's meaning.  It's because of those assholes that a movie making fun of racism, such as Blazing Saddles, couldn't be made today.

"Taken" is light-duty, but still indicative of the sickness that is growing.  Movies like the "Saw" series and "Human Centipede" all the other torture-porn stuff are mainstream now.  The idea that people get off on the imprisoning and torturing and mutilating other people just makes me sick inside.
