who is the chick with the wig (lead female character)?

the only reason I watch this show is spader

Awesome, can't wait for that, Spader needs a proper actor to face off against, so far he's just carried the show more than his role expects as written

How the hell can someone be a former nemesis?

I'd be excited if it were Bill Hader doing his Alan Alda impression.

It's not Alan Alde hate, it's just one trick pony hate. Do you really want to see Red verbally sparring with Hawkeye?

I haven't watched the show but great actors like him need to be given work a lot more often.

I must respectfully disagree: The show was always preachy. The entire cast contributed to that-yes, even Jamie Farr-and that's precisely why it was incredibly popular in its heyday.

As long as it's in measured doses, I wouldn't mind. If it's trotted out in every single episode, THAT might quickly become irritating.

Sometimes Farkers are a bunch of morans.

// I've always been an Alan Alda fan.
// Busted many knuckle babies to Loretta Swit.
// Get off my lawn.

Which is unfortunate, because there is another fantastic actor on the show.

Blacklist is becoming another glaring example of a drama focusing on the wrong characters - and refusing to correct itself when that becomes obvious. Red's plot with Lizzy could be wrapped up in two or three episodes, Then she can just become a supporting cast member, while the show focuses on Cooper taking down blacklisters with Red's expertise. By the end of the second season, millions of viewers would be tuning in to watch Spader spar with Lennix.

The mystery of Lizzy and her husband just isn't going to keep viewers. They aren't the interesting characters on the show, and neither actor is strong enough to overcome those story weaknesses. Lennix is more than capable, but relegated to such a minor role that he won't be able to help Spader salvage the show. Instead, Spader is going to have to keep doing all the heavy lifting until New Recurring Villain comes in. Because dammit, it's so much better to have a show canceled than renegotiate a few cast members' contracts*.

*: see also Terra Nova (sherrif's family instead of the commander); Once Upon A Time (generic annoying kid instead of Mr. Gold), and Homeland (Brody's family instead of... anyone else).

You are making a lot of sense. The girl is hot but good God she's uninteresting. The show definitely needs to focus on a new lead with the gravitas to rival Spader's. The girl needs to do a Mandy ("West Wing" reference).

Same with "Homeland", tonight's was a decent episode because Brody and his family were NOT in it. At all.

Ray Reddington's nemesis should be portrayed by a person capable of matching Spader's intensity and sense of malice/menace.

Alan Alda is not that person.  He's about as threatening as the Hamburglar.

I don't know, did you see him on the West Wing. I think they will go the clam quite route, I can see him doing the lines from Taken but being so calm and nonchalant about it that it is creapy. The question is which side he will be on, federal agent or crook.

So Alda can play a somewhat dastardly politician.  Do you think Barry Goldwater Lite is going to put the fear of God into a Turncoat James Bond?  Nope.  If you cross one, he will cut pork-barreling to your district and funding for your pet projects.  If you cross the other, he will make you die an excruciating death and then go bang your wife.  We've seen Reddington kill several people and he doesn't break a sweat or shed tears over it.  But no matter what they cast him as,  Alan Alda does not possess the ability to make anyone fear for their life.

Alda cracked my shiat up in Wanderlust, and I longed for someone to cockpunch him into oblivion in Aviator.

It's Spader's show - not much anyone can do to mess his vibe.

Alda is one of those guys who's witty and charming in true life.... He excellent at ad-libbing... it would be a mistake to hold him too accountable to a script.

Looks like this week has the unsurprising plot twist that Red is the woman's father, and then she can gradually fade into obscurity as Alda becomes Red's motivation to continue helping whatever the heck organization he's helping.
