Yeah, I actually remember this, and was pissed because it was way too pink.

Paint manufacturers have been selling "flesh" color for n00bs who don't understand color mixing since forever. In fact, it's so popular that they seem to be having problems keeping it in stock.

If you're outraged, start handing out fliers at art stores explaining that skin color is just pinkish orange, not some inscrutable, mystical color that can't be produced without buying extra paint.

a good art class would have prevented this

there are primary colors and then there is the entire spectrum of every shade we can perceive

litigant should be forced to name glidden/sherwin williams paint chips until they run out of nouns and adjectives

It seems to me that everybody is pinkish on the inside, so "flesh color" is not racist even if "skin color" is.

It's Sweden, so I'm guessing that in this case "sued" means "citizen action to enforce existing Swedish regulation regarding nondiscriminatory product names."

Any Swedish lawyer Farkers feel free to chime in, but that's a pretty standard kind of thing in a lot of parts of the world, and the way that thing is usually done, the complainant doesn't get monetary damages.

Flesh colored crayons pissed me off! I was a war baby. 1937- I was maybe 8 years of age when it was over. And flesh colored crayons didn't come in for a long time, man. Flesh colored crayons came in when I was 19. I had been out of coloring for over a year by then. I had gone through rubbing orange and red together.

Agreed. "Flesh" is not the same as skin. Flesh describes muscle and fat, or "soft tissue" on a human. "Skin" is the epidermis.

And most flesh is pinkish or reddish. Skin, however, varies wildly, even within a single race. Caucasians, for example, run the gamut from alabaster white to dark orange or ruddy red.

And a Black person from America is almost never going to be truly ebony-skinned, but there are Africans who are literally black as coal.

And if I ever see an Asian who is literally yellow, I'll be surprised. They're beige, brown, tan, and various shades of pink like caucasians... None of them have skin the color of a banana.

It's not a suit, it's a complaint, which means the government will haul them before some tribunal and rake them over the coals and fine them for thought crime. The kid should be fined too, since she left yellow and red out of her list of alternative skin colors, the bigoted little twerp.

So your theory is that one of the oldest and most respected manufacturers of artist's oil paints in the world made a separate product specifically to reproduce the color of human muscle tissue?

From a coloring perspective, white is the most useless color in the box.

"By renaming beige to skin color they show that there is a whiteness norm in society," Thyra told the Aftonbladet newspaper.

It's a valid grievance to have, but phrasing it like this makes her sound like a complete pissant.

In a ton of countries 'negro' is the proper word for the colour black. That's the joke?

I actually find "skin color" and "flesh color" paint/crayons to be much darker than what I usually want. I quit bothering with them by about age 12 since I always had to mix my own color anyway.

Fun fact: about 100 years ago or so, when cosmetic powders first started being marketed to women, they came in 3 basic colors: white (plain, clown-white powder), cream (very pale orange or tan), and a color called flesh or rose (light pink).

it may be a valid grievance to have against a government official saying that whiteness is a norm in Swedish society, not against a farking paint manufacturer. Even then, it's farking Sweden. Whiteness IS the norm.
