(Social Reader)   Here comes the science: U.S. presidents have become more narcissistic over the years. And it's not a bad thing? I guess it depends on what the meaning of the word 'bad' is   (socialreader.com) divider line 5

What kind of person could look at the level of outright hatred that has been directed at the Obamas and still want to put their family through that?  Michelle says it's good to drink water, and that most people don't drink enough of it, just like every doctor, nurse, coach, physical therapist, etc that I've ever interacted with, and they derp for weeks about how there's no evidence to back it up and nobody that understands the human body buys into that nonsense and she needs to just shut up with her pseudo-science.  He asks for spicy mustard for his burger, and it's "a scandal."  His wife orders lobster, and it's "a scandal."  His 13 y/o daughter wears a grass-stained t-shirt and it's "look at how low-class these people are.  They can't even keep their daughter looking reasonable."  Who would want their family to live with that bulls*t for 8 years?

It's no what Kennedy experienced, as a liberal and Roman Catholic. It was intense. It lacked the vulgar racial component of the Obama bashing, but the typical Kennedy hater was remarkably similar to the typical Obama hater - a frustrated, angry, uneducated white failure and mediocrity, of the sort who resents his betters.

Yep. While not approaching the level of vitriol that race engenders, the whole "Papist" thing was quite prevalent in the south, especially among the Birchers and the Klan.

Seriously, great presidents in the past never used Twitter or Facebook. You didn't see Lincoln with 24/7 coverage of every single thing he did across multiple news channels. It's ridiculous.

All great leaders have egos and all politicians especially presidents have gotten more image conscious and media savvy over time.

I'm not sure all of that can be boiled down to increased narcissism quite so easily.

In any event you gotta admit it still beats the bad old days when leaders would just declare themselves Gods.
