If ghosts were real, we'd be overrun with the damned things by now.

Woulden't a haunted stadium be a good thing? Isn't that how the angels won the pennant?

The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame (law enforcement, not baseball) was built on the oldest cemetery in Waco, and they didn't move all of the bodies.

Or something like that.

On the other hand, if a ghost kills me, my spectre is going to open up a can of whoop-ass on it, just on general principles.

Here in Richmond VA, they are conspiring to build a mixed use baseball stadium in shokoe bottom.
this area is where captain John Smith had to stop progressing up the James river because he hit the fall line.
years later the area was a major shipping port for the new world. also a major hub for the slave trade. slaves where ware housed and auctioned off in the streets all around that area.

the more well off and detatached white folk up the hill did not venture down to the bottom because they did not not want to aknowledge the goings on down at the wharfs.

where they want to put this stadium it would be situated over the most notourious of the auction blocks, and just to the left of a old slave cemetary.

all this dates back to the late 1600's

no actual resident of the city or surronding counties want the new stadium to go down there. the area is already too congested. still fairly crime ridden, there is no parking for burbonites, and there is no ready interstate access despite the interstate flying over the proposed site.

but, the cadre of annomous investers are bound and damn determained to put that damn stadium down there and make us tax payers pay for it. ancient slave burial ground be damned.

Human ghosts don't bother me much. Now those damned ghost sharks, they scare the hell out of me!

2013-11-09 09:14:16 PM

Stupid.

I grew up in Denver and before the Rockies there was an attempt to stir up excitement with the Denver Zephers AAA club (an improvement from the AA Denver Bears IIRC).  Didn't work.  No one cared about AAA ball.

Now I work in El Paso/Fort Bliss (and lived there for 2 years until moving up to Las Cruces), and would point this out to anyone who'd listen.  NO ONE CARES ABOUT AAA BASEBALL.  NOBODY!

I don't think it will manifest into a downtown environ they voted for.  AAA didn't do that in Denver - but MLB sure helped it out.  Downtown El Paso is a very strange place indeed.  You can buy Pancho Villa's trigger finger there and a dead chupacabra at Dave's Pawn Shop.

I never heard of the one with the ape.  Night Game was about a battle between good and evil for a soul, which they chose to play a baseball game because a stadium had been built on their battle ground.  Winston played with the good and made the winning play.

My mom is from El Paso...many of my deceased relatives are buried at Concordia Cemetery (which is mentioned in the article); one of my great-grandfathers is buried at Fort Bliss. I spent a few hours in said city last year while en route to San Angelo, and wish I had been able to stay another day or two.

The following is a pic that's been in my family for about a century. It was taken in El Paso. A cousin and I initially thought it was Villa or someone who hung out with the dude. No inscription on the back. In any case, it would be cool if he haunted that ballpark. If anyone recognizes him, let me know.

I know if I come back as a ghost to haunt someplace--I'm going right to the lonely graveyard and hover around the box with my remains.

Should be a pretty, pretty high-traffic area for me to exploit!

Anyways my local ballpark is haunted according to ESPN.
