Not the Pope, the priest's congregation. Expect more to come from the Vatican. The congregation can not expect to spit on the Pope without repercussions.

Heh.  "Spitting on the Pope" will now be my new euphemism for oral sex.

FTA : Samson was interrupted by his colleagues at lunch one day when he began telling them the story of an 18-year-old who had confessed to him that he was psychologically tormented after being abused by a Catholic priest when he was younger.

"The community superior became enraged," Samson said. "He said, 'Don't talk about this here...

I dont know what from what about this particular case, but that's not really appropriate lunch time patter.

Last week, Samson was fired. He says the officially listed reasons for his firing were all minor - like failing to wear his collar correctly.
These are highly troubled people!

TomD9938: that's not really appropriate lunch time patter.

It really depends on the circumstances. If other people just got done telling stories about horrible things that happened to people, then it's appropriate. If they were talking about their fantasy football league and all the sudden this guy jumps in with "Hey, I knew a guy that got molested by a priest" that might be inappropriate.

One can hope they all fall victim to the blade.

Every time you donate to a Catholic church you simply are paying to board child molesters.

Don't matter how many deformed people you hug, you still covering up for some of the worst.

I'm guessing that's why the superior got so pissed.

It's lunch time.  Let's talk about sports FFS.

Well, Pope Francis has been backing up his words about poverty and the like, let's hope he backs up his words about about exposing this sorta thing and punishing the people.

Someone tweet him.

Pope's new schedule for tomorrow:

9 AM - Wash homeless people's feet
10:30 - Execute everyone involved in sexual abuse and cover-ups that he can
Noon - Touch people with leprosy

I hope the new Pope will set a new standard of behavior. We shall see.

But first, a little song by Tim Minchin about the last guy who helped to cover these things up (NSFW Language).

This was my high school principal.

http://clergysexualabuse.blogspot.com/2008/09/that-little-house-behi nd -school.html

He never got a hold of me, but he ruined the lives of some of those around me.

Once he was it was discovered that he was abusing boys, he was allowed to finish out the school year so as to "not create a scandal."  Because of being enabled by the Church, no one came forward to law enforcement until after the statute of limitations ran out.  He never served a day in jail.

You can read more about him here:  http://www.bishop-accountability.org/news13/1999_07_04_Frank_EdwardMc K eown_McKeown_AND_Richards_3.htm

I need a rage font.

Um, the article sounds like he may have violating the sanctity of the confessional from the description given. That's an explicit no-no, and one of the problems with priests "confessing" to crimes. The confessor can't mention it.

I watch that video, and think of how much more I'd be making if only I'd learned to play the piano and lowered my self to wearing eyeliner.

Not impressed.

If only there was some moral entity who would take a stand against this kind of abuse.

Well, to be fair there are better methods of bringing sexual abuse to people's attention than pulling a curtain back to reveal ol' Reverend Billybob diddling little David...

Unfortunately, it does. If the priest violated the sanctity of confession, that violates one of the precepts of confession. This is a catholic thing, like sanctuary, that has a problematic relationship with legal process.

Even if nobody is identified ? and the discussion was internal to those also bound by that rule ?

If that is a problem to the church then frankly I have a problem with the church. (well I have a bunch of them but harbouring child molestors kinda breaks down all the "but we do good elsewhere" excuses)

They know that all they really have is the appearance of legitimacy and once that illusion is broken the rest of their lies will be obvious.  If you really believe in god and heaven then you should realize that hiding this crime in this world will have no bearing on how you will be judged in the afterlife and that open truth and honesty is the moral high road.  If you realize the whole thing is a scam and that without the facade of holiness your con job becomes obvious then you would hide these things and create a culture that promotes silence.

If no one is named, that does not violate the sanctity of confession, so no harm, no foul and the priest is free to speak.

I am the last person to defend the church and I'm sure there is more to thos story but:
A. He didn't "expose" molestation, he exposed a victim's confession.
B. He didn't bring it to his supervisor who could do something to further an investigation. He was gossiping at lunch.

Attn whore wants more attn so instead of filing a report with the authorities (not mentioned here) he goes to the media.
