And don't forget the strict pro-union convention center.

Maybe they're hoping for riots.  Gotta give Fox something to work with.

the Illinois Republican Party is encouraging Chicago to bid on the 2016 GOP National Convention. Even Mayor Rahm Emanuel, ever the opportunist, is considering the request.

Not gonna happen.

I'm not really familiar with the Chigagoist but I do know a sucky blog when I see one.

Ah, but we DO have a Republican mayor. He hates the public schools and the teachers union and is dedicated to for-profit charters. He's determined to selling off city assets - Midway Airport, the Water Filtration Plant, the Lake Calumet Port. He only meets with one-percenters and those he believes he can strongarm for campaign contributions and never meets with any community groups.
And he got filthy rich in investment banking after serving in Congress representing the wealthy, white North Shore.

I mean, that's a Republican, right?

/well, at least I can do one thing that F-bomb Rahm can't - give him the middle finger with BOTH of my hands

It makes perfect sense when you look at it with the "politics as war" mindset that's become the norm in this country. It's a symbolic invasion of the heart of the enemy's territory and assaulting its most formidable stronghold.

Of course, since it's the GOP it'll end up looking something like this

Came here to say this. Also, oddly enough I am currently reading this  http://www.amazon.com/Mayor-1-Rahm-Emanuel-Chicagos/dp/1608462226/ref = tmm_pap_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1384036378&sr=8-1 book about Rahm and find it to be a very good read.

And he tried to Strong arm our (Minnesota) Attorney General into not investigating a bill collector which threaten patients in the hospital that they would be thrown out if they didn't pay up right there in then. The company was based in Chicago. She pretty much said fark you and went ahead.

It's been 45 years since the hippies and communists of the left held their anarchic "convention" in Chicago that resulted in a much-needed - yet restrained - reaction from the Chicago Police Department. In the time that has passed since then, it is undeniably and patently obvious that the city of Chicago has been overrun by union thugs, anti-2nd Amendment activists and leftist authoritarian nanny-staters. In selecting Chicago as the location for the 2016 Republican National Convention, the Grand Old Party is seeking to bring righteousness, order and traditional values to a city that has lost its way. In doing so, it endeavors - as always - to present an example of the kind of propriety, even-tempered discourse and intellectually-rooted political pragmatism for which the Republican Party is so rightfully famous. The city of Chicago should welcome the convention and, when it is held, gaze with solemn reverence at the wise, far-sighted and people-oriented platform that will come from the convention as a means of propelling a visionary Republican candidate to the office of the presidency and - more importantly - returning the United States of America to a position of greatness in the world.

Those are good talking points.  I would also mention that Daley said "you Jew sonfofabiatch" as a segue into "Democrats are the real racists."

Given the overwhelming evidence that the Republicans deliberated tried to shut government down and successfully downgraded America's credit rating through traceable strategic means, I don't think the Republicans should get matching funds in 2016.

Let them go sucking to the Koch brothers to fund their shiatty stupid agenda.

The GOP wants Chicago to make a bid just so they'll have to satisfaction of giving the Windy City the finger. They cheered when Chicago lost its bid for the Olympics because they saw it as a way to stick it to Obama rather than a chance for the United States to not be shut out once again.

2013-11-09 05:56:40 PM
I like knowing that if America can survive the free operation of the Republican Party in half the government, it can probably survive anything short of a true fusion bomb war, in which case I'll be dead. It makes an astonishingly effective argument that the system works even if it also raises stark existentialist dread.

After railing on Obama's place and buzzwording "Chicago Politics!", they're going to Chicago to make nicey? I already see the speeches.

"Chicago is a great American true patriotic city! But it got dirty! By Obama living there! And liberals!"

That's totally the take.

They're going to derp about how they're keeping democracy alive in the heart of one of the most corrupt political machine in the USA. And I'll bet they've got some useful idiot like Chris Christie making the speech.

Who the fark cares where it is? A lot of money will cross under the table, so the Chicago democrats will be happy. The republicans will look like they are reaching out. Everybody wins.

Otherwise they could just hold it on a soundstage in Canada and no one would even care. Vancouver's' big now isn't it?

I would hope the hippies in Vancouver would make their stay a rightly unpleasant one. If I were Canadian, I would be incensed that such stupid people that are frankly farking up the world be allowed to have a convention there.

Kansas City is trying for it as well but they're hindered due to the lack of hotel capacity. But even if that's the case Missouri isn't the swing state that it used to be and Kansas is well...Kansas.

But can they? I mean sure, downstate will always basically be Kentucky (and yes - I lived downstate for 5 years). For christ sake, the GOP couldn't win the governors mansion in 2010 here, even with a weak candidate in Pat Quinn.

I think its a fine idea. Bring tens of thousands of overprivileged white people into the city to party and run up their credit cards. Should be good for the local economy.

Think they can break their record for bloviating about how corrupt Chicago is by then?

It's kind of like how John Bolton wouldn't shut up about how much he hates the UN and then couldn't wait to be UN ambassador.  Now, after years of GOP pundits whining about how awful Chicago is (mostly because "that guy" is from there) they can't wait to show up.

If for no other reason than that Antonin Scalia won't be alive for too much longer, I very much want to see the GOP get stomped in 2016.

I'm sure Bebe could have provided the conventioneers in Miami whatever they wanted.
