Best Canadian musician (as in most talented) is easy.

Glenn Gould.

Doc Batarang: Its Sloan.

Sloan is the greatest band in Canada.

Admit you're wrong and I'll admit I'm right.

I won't argue the best - because Rush, Neil Young have existed, but Sloan should've enjoyed some commercial success in the US and never did.

The aforementioned Money City Maniacs melts faces.

The only thing he didn't steal from Levon Helm.

Anyway, I'm partial to Great Big Sea - and if tribute bands count, The Musical Box.

I'll let one of you hipsters mention Leonard Cohen.

Sloan had two decent songs one year in the mid-90s. Not even close. Hell, Lee Aaron had more commercial success.

Best rock act - Rush (everyone else is competing for second)
Best musician is tougher, but I'll second Colin James. Criminally under-rated.

Bruce Cockburn doesn't get as much attention as he deserves. Great lyricist and some of his guitar compositions are masterful.

I'm actually on the greatest hits live album. At the beginning of Money City Maniacs, you can hear a faint "kakakaka-KA". That's me.

Other great Canadian bands:
- Change of Heart
- C'Mon
- Whitey Houston
- Tricky Woo

bucket_chemist: Sloan had two decent songs one year in the mid-90s. Not even close. Hell, Lee Aaron had more commercial success.

CSB: One drunken night in Vancouver in the late 90s me and the boys stumbled into a dive bar and found Lee Aaron singing jazz piano. Pete kept shouting "Play Metal Queen!" between rounds until they threw us out and we went on to the next dive bar. She was still hot in the bod but not so much in the face. /CSB

Sloan had more than two songs, but I understand they're power pop so most people can't tell the difference between any of their albums, but if  you don't know this album you don't know Sloan:

HELL YEAH! Definitely one of the most underrated bands in prog. And kudos to the guy who mentioned Devin Townsend (interviewed him for chaindlk.net a few years back, very laid back person oddly enough). 'Deconstruction', his new one is INSANE!!!

They're not a farking surf band, though.

First head Sport Fishin' at Musiplex (or was it Metroplex?) in Winnipeg back in the early 90s. Cool store, first time I had ever seen listening stations, though Toronto's music stores eventually got them shortly afterward. I had already heard  Having An Average Weekend, of course,

I was fortunate enough to get two of the Phono-comb releases, as well (Monsters... and Fresh Gasoline).

TRIVIA! The lyrics to the song "Penpals" are excerpts from fan letters written to Kurt Cobain.
