Mr. Young, like Mr. Zimmerman, is a fantastic poet but a horrible musician.

Me. Is there any other person who knows my opinions better?

Don't know if he counts as "rock", but I'd go with Ogre and/or cEvin Key.

Hmmmm...

Neil Young is covered many times over, as is Devin Townsend, so let's get these guys into the conversation, pronto.

I think part of the reason they don't get the recognition they deserve is because there was a while that their music wasn't available in stores. 15 years ago I was working in a record store in BC and it was frustrating telling people we couldn't even special order any of their stuff because they didn't have a current distribution deal. Fortunately, they do now.

Sloan is the greatest band in Canada.

I think this is the furthest I've ever seen this conversation go without any mention of Loverboy. I don't know if that's a good sign or a bad sign.

Burton Cummings.

End Of Discussion.

None of the others would have even existed without him and the Guess Who (except for Neil Young who couldn't make in in Canada so sold out and moved to the states).

Best Canadian rock star is tough.

Best Canadian musician (as in most talented) is easy.

Glenn Gould.

Not the best, but I do enjoy Big Wreck and when I'm feeling nostalgic, Age of Electric and Limblifter.

Part of the attraction is my crush on 2000's era Ian Thornley.
What are your favourite Canadian bands?

Paul Shaffer from the Letterman show is Canadien. I nominate him for the most irritating.

They are probably a liitle to niche to be The Best, but I'd like to show a little love for Blackie and the Rodeo Kings.

You're right of course. Stupid answer on my part, but I do disagree with you.

Its funny how parochial people are.  I have Canuck internet friends (from way back -mplayer, livve, vvc, now camfrog - a lot of us stuck together for years and years) that know I'm in radio here in the US.  They'll rattle off all these Canadian bands that are anywhere from unheard of to one hitters down here, and are then FLABBERGASTED I haven't head of them.

Despite Cummings awesome voice, I don't think The Guess Who would have been that great without Bachman.
