I like Neil Young quite a bit but I have to go with Rush here. Well, '70s and '80s Rush, at least.

Mr. Young, like Mr. Zimmerman, is a fantastic poet but a horrible musician.

/I vote Snow.

But I vote The Lowest of the Low.

Raine Maida.

I'm kidding, but I do think OLP's first few albums were certainly better-than-average pop/rock stuff. Then they started to suck.

Bah, music preferences are completely subjective and subject to fluctuation.  I've been a big fan of Rush, Neil Young, Spirit of the West, Blue Rodeo, The Hip and Barenaked Ladies in the past.

Right now I really like Whitehorse, Radio Radio and The Zolas.  My favourite band right now is Mother Mother.  Here`s Let`s Fall in Love.

I will choose a path that's clear.  I will choose Celine Dion.

the greatest kanuckistani music stars are the ones that left the protectionist haven of kanuckistan and went to the U.S.A. to create music in the free market.

Today you learned: Canadian recording artists were owed $8 billion by the kanuckistan copyright maffiaa from repackaging music and mini-pops. The 'artists' settled for about $60 million and now live a life of luxury with unlimited poutine from the dumpster.

Bennie Crabtree: The Tragically Hip are so under-represented in this discussion.

I was listening to Shakespeare my Buttas I read this.  Spooky.  LoTL and Ron Hawkins were and are one of the most criminally underrated bands of the '90s.  I had occasion to do a few shows with them along the way when I used to book live music, great guys, too.

There are a lot of great Canadian music, but if I had to crown a champion, I really would have to go with Randy Bachman.  He's still takin' care of business.

2013-11-09 02:30:31 PM
Tegan and Sara?  Seriously?  I like 'em, but come on.

(Probably vote for Neil Young.  I'm one of those people whose bag Rush ain't.  Respect, though; I could see it.)

TFH: Who is the greatest Canadian rock star?
TFA: Who is your single favorite band or artist to come from Canada?

Those are two entirely different questions.

In the second category, in addition to those already listed in the thread, I'll throw Bif Naked, Paul Brandt, Great Big Sea, 54-40, Wide Mouth Mason, and Bedouin Soundclash into the mix.

And if we're gonna have a Canadian music thread, I've got to shout out to Calgarian Danny Vacon's three bands, The Dudes, Highkicks, and Dojo Workhorse.  One for each of your listening needs- Balls out Rawk, Dirtbag  Kickass Fuzzbass, and Easy listenin' 70's moustache rock.  The new Dojo album in particular is some exceptional songwriting.

Danny is also a hell of a shortstop on our slow pitch team.  And anybody that successfully uses Jovi as a verb deserves at least one listen from you, right?

/End shameless plug
//Jovis out in a blaze of glory
