(Guardian)   Good morning, guten tag, buenas tardes and buon pomeriggio, it's time for the weekly football thread. The EPL is more open than it's been for a decade but the normal service is still going on in Spain and Germany. The fall of Serie A is complete   (theguardian.com) divider line 394

I'm so annoyed, my body woke up early and the games don't start for a few hours. The only game score I couldn't figure out this week was Arsenal/Manchester United. I think the Gunners should win, but you can never overlook United at Old Trafford. They'll run their lungs out today to not lose.

Moyes will probably go for a defensive setup to avoid losing, and I think this will help Arsenal. The tempo at Borussia Dortmund was brutal and I think we're nursing tired legs.

The real action is set for 2:00 p.m. CST in New Orleans, where the Under-6 division of Carrollton Boosters sees the Gators set to face the Jedi Masters.

I completely agree.  Tactically, it's highly unlikely to be a possession battle - the Gators will dominate the ball, while the Jedi Knights will focus upon organization and counter-attacking quickly down the flanks. It's difficult to see that the Jedi Knights would be any better off by attempting to dominate the play. Around 60-65% the Gators possession is probable early on.

In terms of the battlegrounds, the key pairing for the Gators will be Tommy Jenkinson and Bobby Schuster. In a perfect world, the Gators coach wouldn't be fielding these two together - he'd have Tommy anchoring the midfield, leaving marauding midfielder Mikey Miller to venture forward. This combination has only started together three times this season , and on paper it's not quite a natural partnership. These are both playmakers, both passers, and while both are intelligent enough to make this work, there are questions. First, which one will sit deeper? Or will they play as a true double pivot allowing each to go forward at different times? It will also be interesting to see how much they look to get beyond the Jedi Knights sweeper, Josh Tanner.

The potential spanner in the works for the Jedi Knights is Jimmy Davidson - who might play as the number ten, or might play out wide and drift into central positions. Then there's the further question of whether he drops back goalside of these two players if he's the number ten, or whether he stays higher up combines with the primary forward on the break. However, the clear positive of the partnership is the increased passing ability. Retention will be better, but more crucially the Gators will possess two players able to slide intricate through balls into the attackers. the Jedi Knights might need to instruct Billy Barksdale to press them, though this would obviously leave more space between the lines.

It sucks that we still have to wait 24 hours for this game. Although both teams need a bit of extra rest.

So I'm at a relatives house that has Dish and can't find NbC sports or the extra time channels. The googles says dish carries it, anybody know the channels offhand?

Check http://www.mydish.com/programmingguides/

It can vary by zip code, depending on which satellite you are pointed at. Also beware that the NBC sports channels are only included in the high-end Dish packages.

Once again this week I'm getting it online (by logging into nbcsports with my Dish ID) even though its not included in my package and doesn't show up in my DVR guide. Might work for you too...

I wonder what this means in the United States. Maybe nothing if Fox Soccer has a long-term contract for broadcast rights here.

West Brom is working hard at Stamford Bridge. I still think Chelsea will win, unless West Brom can nick the first goal

NBC has the rights here for the next several years (Fox had them up until this year, with a side deal with ESPN to show one game a week).

Well, United played a day earlier and at a *slightly* slower intensity, so that shouldn't be an excuse.

Arsenal should win comfortably. They're the only thing even vaguely resembling a competent, functioning team in the Premier League at the moment.

You're confusing the EPL with the CL

And then Henderson pulls a Henderson and shoots from way out and puts it in the 40th row

Arsenal, Liverpool, Southampton at the top. All we're missing is Leeds back to have a throwback Premier League season.

You refer to relative decline?
A series of significant scandals. Economic disruption in Italy and the withdrawal of several sugardaddies together with other leagues having better income streams. Add in below-par performance in the CL and Italy isn't looking in great shape - their coefficients, their finances, their brands and reputations.

Spain is next.

Well, I'm not sure I'd show Villa/Cardiff to a soccer newbie, that's for sure.

Milan is middling to terrible, Inter isn't much better, Luca Toni is scoring on people at will at the ripe old age of 36. The whole league looks very vulnerable, save for Roma and Napoli.
