Does the author count ties as losses?  I don't understand the Sharks' entry with their record.  Why would it say they have three straight losses if their record is 10-1-4?

There are no ties anymore, overtime and shootout losses are the third column

The Bruins are too damned high.

On that note, the GF flew up to Boston last night, so her and her friend are going to the Bruins/Leafs game.

No more ties in hockey, the third number is Overtime or Shootout losses.

That's a pretty West-heavy top-10. I figured they'd give the Penguins a top-4 rank out of habit.

Wow...the TB Lightning are quite low...considering they have 2 wins on the Blackhawks this season.  Exceptfor the crappy game they play a couple of weeks ago at home, they have been solid most of the season....and Ben Bishop has been a beast in goal...something the Bolts have lacked in past couple of seasons

And Marty St Louis just don't quit...best damn hockey player on the planet

I've taken to reading these while standing on my head, or at least holding the page upside down.

The Sharks don't belong on top because their defense has been making ridiculously bad exit passes the past two games, particularly Demers.  Buffalo put four on them in regulation and their possession play against Vancouver was atrocious to the point that they were almost doubled in shot count at home.  They pulled Niemi and Stalock stood on his head, so half the fans think "Problem solved!"  but it isn't.  They need to bench Demers for about a week and bring back Irwin, then see what they want to do with those two when Burns comes back.  With how badly the D has been playing, and how well Kennedy, Nieto, and Wingels have been playing, I really can't see them bringing Burns back into the top 9.

All of this.

They just might be for real this season...

As an Avs fan, I would say that's about right. They have been having trouble in their own end lately. Goaltending can only bail you out of so many terrible turnovers. That said, Matt Duchene is playing on another planet right now, just insane.

It wouldn't be if they'd been watching.  The team has averaged over a point per game each of the past four seasons.

Loser points should be considered in that stat. There's a lot of teams who've averaged over a point per game during the last 4 seasons. Averaging just 1 point per game is mediocre.

That said, eddie is half right. It's not a shock that we're off to a good start. It's a shock that we've only had 4 regulation losses and in them, we were badly outplayed in San Jose, on Long Island, in LA and in Anaheim this past Wednesday (only 9 giveaways? more like 90). This is the best start the Coyotes have had in 12 or 13 years!

If we can just avoid those games where we piss all over ourselves, we're going to be more than just fine.

2 is probably a bit too high, but they're definitely top 5 . Only have lost twice in regulation, tied for the league in that category with SJ, COL, STL.  6th in goal differential in the league, and that's despite Khabi in net for 3 games and his magical 4.74 GAA.

2013-11-09 03:29:00 PM
Anaheim Ducks are atop the NHL points after a two-week road trip, are ahead of San Jose (No. 1 on this list), have done so with injuries that would derail most teams, and get put 5th on this ranking.

Seems legit.

/Kings fan, but WTF?

I really would like a word with the geniuses who gave Toronto five days off then booked a back to back, then three days off then three games in four nights.  What part of compressed schedule did not register?

A Kessel v. Lucic stick swinging duel leaving both players maimed would suit me just fine.  And if Chara gets a splinter or two, even better.
