Teach the controversy.

I'm no iguana or fossil expert, but isn't the frill under the chin soft tissue, and therefore wouldn't fossilize. Add in the the fact that fossil would have to extract itself from the rock it's surrounded by, and place itself carefully on the surface....

You know, the more I think about it, the more I'm doubting this story.

Oh, this guy again.

He keeps spamming the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology facebook page with blurry mars pics and doesn't understand why us science people don't see the giant dinosaur skeleton clearly in the center of the page.

There's some comedy gold there. I can provide his name off-fark if anyone wants to see some weapons-grade crazy. EIP

Are you sure? Did it change colors?

The shiatty thing about these kind of claims is that they invalidate the real stuff worth paying attention to. Thanks for making a further mockery of the extraterrestrial argument due to a lame case of pareidolia...

I went as Giorgio Tsulokas for a Halloween party this year. I was shocked how few people got it.

Obviously, these are the remains of an iguana that had looked into the face of Medusa.

Duh.

No, it was an iguana related to mountain trolls; it was exposed to sunlight and turned to stone.  Obviously.

I just see a rock.

It's a rock, dammit! It's the exact same color and material as the other rocks and soil!

Well, he and you have missed the real story.  TheManWho is correct--that frill would not have fossilized.  That is not a fossil.  It is a salt formation.  Note that the salt iguana is looking back over her left shoulder--yes, that's right.  Mars was populated by a race of intelligent iguanas whose grievous sins forced God to destroy their city, and the only righteous iguana and his family escaped.  What you see in this photo is the righteous iguana's wife, whose faith faltered.

So nice find, Crazy UFO Hunter Dude, but here's the real story:  the rest of the righteous iguana family is still.  out.  there.  Yes.  I'll bet that if you look more closely, you'll find iguana tracks all over the red planet.  Get to work and don't come back until you've got the proof.

What.  You know Richard C. Hoagland would agree with me.

Did you have a caption?  The costume needs a caption.

Nothing to see here, just your normal, run-of-the-mill pareidolia.

No, but I did have a golden flyer lapel pin I got from etsy.

I could have made a caption, but I thought it was pretty obvious even without it.

Oh they got it but they're aliens so they're trying not to draw attention to themselves.
