Why does the porn industry stay in California? Do they get a tax break? It's not like they can't reproduce the exotic sets of San Fernando Valley ranch houses in some other state.

The SO was working outside the other day, and wearing a baseball cap. He came in all sweaty and wanted a beer. Then he turned his baseball cap so the brim went backwards; I thought this was a signal and I dropped trou and....well that didn't work out like I thought. I mean really who would turn their baseball cap backwards unless they weren't ready to go down on you like a circus seal.

You really can get chlamydia in the eyes from getting a facial.

I don't understand why porn companies can't just fake some of this stuff.

I'm assuming the amount of whores  per capita. It IS California. SoCal is like a gravity well for skanks.

It's not legal here, either; well, not really.

The porn industry is here for the same reason the rest of the movie industry is here: The equipment is here, the techs are here, the actors/actresses/other are here; the writers and directors are here. It may SEEM like you can just set up a camera and go to town, but surprisingly, actual porn production is just like movie production, and you need a crew just like any other film.

So while it's no more legal to do it in someone's backyard in Encino than in Toledo, it IS easier to get the lights, sound equipment, props, crew, and other impedimenta of production from Burbank to Encino than it is to get it from Burbank to Toledo. I used to know people who'd done crew work on porn, it's actually a fairly common way to break into tech work in the industry.

Same with gonorrhea and herpes.

Pretty much what the other guy said. It's really quiet, not a lot of nosy neighbors, plus close to everything, and a massive supply of desperate "actresses." Fark, I'd've gotten into it myself if I had clear skin (and I had offers when I was younger, but 13 is just a little too young to do porn, you know?).

However, the industry is taking a massive hit from amateur websites and the internet in general, so we're starting to see it bleed out, similar to how Vancouver and New Zealand have taken a good chunk of movie production due to lower taxes and production costs. The movie production industry here is struggling from I've heard, but I'm sure better connected Farkers may correct me if I'm wrong.

California is probably the only state where filming porn is legal.

49 other states in the Union, you'd think that at least one would want the influx of business dollars that would come from it.

You just need a state that isn't so Holier Than Thou that they would spurn porn on general principle, and that really would need the money.

Why in the world aren't the studios already required to pay for testing before every shoot? This isn't something performers should be paying out of pocket.

I'm guessing it wouldn't work since people would do the deed with non-actors between the test and the shoot and disease incubation periods means tests are not always reliable.
